2.0T Coupe shown
- $11,602 - $11,970
- Fun to drive, DSG w/ paddle shifters, excellent fuel consumption, appearance
- One spooky rattle that comes and goes. Most of the time it is not there so who cares
Just love this car. From the acceleration and amazing handling to the even more outstanding 27-28 combined mpgs. This car is just cool. The 4 door is very liveable. I'd purchase another one in a heart beat if something bad happened to it.

- Easy handling, enjoyable fuel economy, stress-free parking, pleasing price
- Horrible power, crammed seating, safety is not what this car has
You have to like it's smooth and slick handling, it's 21/29 mpg fuel economy, easy parking (thank it's small size), and a price is the best thing about the GTI.
But you won't get nice power, comfort in the cabin, and especially safety.
But if you're addicted to going green, I would get the GTI....read morehide

- Most everything. I love driving stick, but the DSG is great.
- Ride is kinda rough.
My Mom is a big wig for Audi. I would say that I have had at least 10 vw's aince 2001 and this one is best of all. Drove it from Atlanta to Phoenix off the lot. You could feel every bump. Stereo system could use a little work. Other than that best vw I have ever owned.

- This is one of my best car for years
I have about 16,000 on my vw gti 2007 and I have to ask myself why going for the regular's inspection. It is a fantastic car, reliable, fast and lots of fun to drive. In addition, I get questions or compliments in shopping malls and other place from all ages of people. This car reminds me the driving and solidity my father Audi 6. I used my cars mainly for long distance driving. On the highway, I could maintain without any problem a cruise speed of 138kmh. -2 from 140 for speed control in Canada.
I just love my GTI.

- DSG transmission is amazing, 2.0L turbo 4 feels like a 6 cylinder engine, seats, steering
- Build quality
Miles: 39,000. This would be the ultimate car if it weren't for the questionable build quality. The seats are comfortable, the steering is good for the price, DSG transmission is amazing and shifts are undetectable, 2.0L engine has superior power for a 4 cylinder, the list goes on and on. However, as soon I bought car, I started to notice some annoying rattles. At about 25,000 miles, the car stalled on the freeway and the air conditioning went out. Not too long after that was fixed the car began to idle roughly and the engine started to make a whining noise. All were fixed by the dealer under warranty but it certainly doesn't instill any confidence in VW....read morehide

- Better than expected MPG, excellent handling, sporty and smooth DSG transmission, overall style
- Brakes squeek in very cold temps until warmed up, premium sound system could use more bass
This is my first VW, but so far I am very impressed with the car. The GTI is extremely fun to drive and has plenty of power thanks to the 2.0 FSI turbo-charged engine. Merging onto the interstate and passing at highway speed no longer requires a strategic or perfectly timed approach. The acceleration is there when you need it without mashing the pedal through the floor. With 17" wheels, the ride is still smooth and relatively quiet at highway speeds. It is definitely an improvement over my PT Cruiser.
The interior of the car is surprisingly spacious and the front passenger seat can comfortably accommodate my wife, who is 5'6", or one of my 6'5" hockey teammates. The leather seats are racing-style buckets that cradle you in the perfect driving position. The control layout is pretty logical and easy to navigate. The basic controls for the stereo on the steering wheel are a smart touch and limit distractions while driving. The bass isn't quite as robust as expected in the premium sound system, so an after-market upgrade may be required if you really want to rattle every window in a 50ft. radius. Climate controls are simple to operate, but the dual-zone climate control feature has been removed for some reason. That was one of the few poor decisions VW made with this car.
Overall, the 2008 GTI is a great car and will provide a lot of fun on the road for both driver and passenger(s). While the backseat provides seating for three additional passengers, there's no need to weigh down your pocket rocket with unnecessary ballast. This is no family sedan - treat it like a two-seat coupe and take off!...read morehide

- Great performance and handling, tons of head and legroom, fun to drive
- A minor rattle can be heard from time to time
Overall a fantastic car. I didn't think I would find anything I liked better than my '97 Jetta GT but this is it. It is the 4th VW I've owned and I've never had problems with any of them.

- Lots of Room! Huge back seat! comfortable and fairly fast. Excelent engine and beautiful sound.
- questionable reliability.
So happy with this car I can't even describe it. Just one thing to remember, if the engine is cold wait a few minutes for it to warm up before driving. If it's cold the shifts are jerky and the power is unpredictable.
Also it's a little sluggish if you want to accelerate from, say, 60-80 -- but the thrill of 0-40 makes up for that.
Excellent all around car, it'll make a great family car too. :)...read morehide

- Looks, speed, handleing, comfort, room
- Ipod jack, why is it in the glove box, very inconvenient, have had a few problems with car
I love this car, but I do not love the problems, I have had this car since Aug. and I too have been more in the shop then out, in fact they know me now at the dealership. I am a little disappointed in this, This is my first VW and I was told by many that VW's reliability is not good so I just leased my GTI figuring I would have it for 3 years and the warrenty is for 3 years that is when the problems will probably start happening, did not expect the problems just after 3 months and now into only my 5th month of owning the car, should of listened to everyone. Don't think I would buy another VW in the future and I am glad I only leased this car. It is very sad though because it is a great car, I fell in love with it the moment I got in it and drove it at the dealership. I still love the way it performs and looks its just to bad VW can't get its act together with the reliability problems....read morehide

- great handling and performance; easy to park; smooth 6-spd manual
- only issue i have is with the enclosure for my sun glasses (doesn't close properly)
this is an amazing car!
the handling and performance is outstanding, mainly due to the 2.0 FSI turbo engine, and it's small size (only 165.8 inches long). makes for easy parking and making U-turns at tight intersections.
i sold my Nissan Maxima to buy this car (which was also a 6-spd manual), and this was the best decision i ever made. the GTI is just as fast, if not faster (0-60 in 6.9 sec), and the steering and handling is much better.
you can save a lot of $$ by getting just the base model, which still has an amazing assortment of standard features that you would normally have to pay for with other manufacturers.
by the way, all GTIs are built in Germany, which gives them greater reliability.
i'm gonna drive GTIs for the rest of my life. i've owned Honda's and Nissan's. i wish i had known how great the GTI was about 10 yrs ago :)
