- "stock stylish", good MPG considering the power, fun, fast, turns heads.
- break noise, more body roll than expected, impossible to drive in the snow..
All in all I am very happy with this daily driven vehicle. For a stock purchase it is amazingly stylish, the relatively flat torque curve allows for "giddy up go" over a very broad range of RPM's, the Recaro seats are quite comfortable even over longer excursions, the "Monsoon" amplified system offers high quality sound considering it is a stock feature, the brushed aluminum interior components are a nice touch, as is the classic jetta blue back-lit dash which is hybridized with "Audi-esque" LED's.
Most of the time I am quite satisfied with the performance of the vehicle. I drive ~98% of the time on the highway, and I think this is where the GLI is most at home. If need be I can get around a slower moving vehicle that is travelling oh let's say a hypothetical 100mph with ease.
I have not yet had to take this vehicle to the shop for anything other than regular scheduled maintenance. I am at ~25000 mi. thus far (less than a year old)! I do note break noise which is silenced after a quick power washing. The tires are absoulutely garbage in the snow! As this is my daily driver and living in New England I have encountered some serious problems in snowy conditions. DIS-ENGAGE THE ESP!!!! if you plan on trying to drive up anything other than a 90 degree pitch!! The ESP will leave you not going anywhere fast when driving in snowy conditions up-hill, always pack a snow shovel in the trunk (you will need it)! It's amazing how much worse this car performs in the snow as compared to my 99' Jetta GL (which could actually plow my own path the my house). When the spring comes and the pot-holes arrive plan on replacing every single tire, In the months of march and april I had to replace three tires @ 250.00 USD each!
Also in wet conditions driving at speed around a long sharp curve the ESP makes for some hairy driving experiences, something akin to driving a tank or a bull-dozer. In fact I can only think of a few conditions where the ESP is actually beneficial! The body roll experienced at speed around tight turns is a little more than what I would expect from a sport tuned suspension, however as compared to my 99' Jetta GL it is light years ahead in regards to suspension.
