- Looks sharp, nice features
- Fuel economy is so-so, gas gauge is off and what the Heck is wrong with the brakes??
On impulse I traded my 2003 GTI in for a 2005 Jetta GLI. Thinking they were relatively the same (engine, front styling, etc.). Within the first 300 miles the brakes developed a squealing noise when coming to a slow stop every time I stopped. The dealer claims to have heard of this problem but dismissed it as "normal" since they are high performance brakes. My BMW has high performance brakes too and they don't squeal like this. The dealer did replace the rear rotors and pads and the front pads but after a few days the noise is back.
So far the car is not what I expected in quality and I wish I had my GTI back. Hopefully I can work the brake issue out with the dealer and VW as it seems to be well documented. Otherwise I think I'll get rid of it.
