- Wheels are impossible to clean, Repairs arent cheap, Horrible in the snow.
I have a 2004.5 GLI and put 25,000 miles on it over the course of the last year commuting from Queens to CT with no problems thus far. Gas mileage is good and the car is fun to drive, especially when you drive it aggressively. Not a BMW, but better than most cars I have driven. The Recaro's are awesome and the 6 speed is a great as well. While the 18' BBS's are nice, after a winter of not being able to clean them weekly, the brake dust has never come off competely again no matter what I try. Get new tires for winter because the Goodyear F1's are straight dangerous. You will not be going anywhere, even with only an inch of snow. The skirts also make the car look great, but my front spoiler came off once and it cost me $420 bucks to replace.
I must say that if you have a family you will find the car a little small. I have a baby seat in the back and with a one year old you can still fit comfortably, but you will definitely will need something bigger if they are any older than that. Overall, I would say that if you are young, single, or a its a 2nd car, then its a great choice, but its a little small to be the only family ride.
