- Very fod performance with fuel economy, Ergonomics, Audi feel at VW price,
- Not sure about mexican build for the long haul
i've had my new 2.0T for about 2 weeks now, and overall I am very happy. I was almost sold on the A4 2.0T front trak, but after driving this jetta, I felt the 2 sedand were 2 close to justify the Audi's premium.
I have the least expensive 2.0T, which comes pretty well equipped in its own right. Only thing I wish for is leather, VW's pleather is not very convincing. I would have sprung for package 1 (leather, power seats, dual zone CC) for $ 1800, but couldn't find one on a dealer's lot, and wasn't interested enough to order one up.
This is the first VW I've owned, having switched over from mainlyhonda/acura -and what impresses me the most is the phenomenal ergonomics. this 'feels' like a much more expensive car, and everything sort of fits me in a way that suggests a lot of time was spent on design. Although a compact, this car rides with a solidness not seen in other cars of its size and price.
Plus it drives, handles, and accelerates like a bona fide sport sedan without the harshness of, say, a WRX (admittedly the WRX outperforms it)
I would highlye recommend giving this car a look -especially if you re in the market for a '30-something' european sports sedan like an A4, Saab 9-3 , or Volvo S 40. You may find, like I did, this car fits your needs/desires for quite a bit less $$$...read morehide

- Solid build, fuel ecomonmy, loads of extras
- Dead spot from a stop - manual
I've had my 06 Jetta 2.0T for about a week. I paid $27,000.00 roughly - package one with leather seats, etc... This car has a lot of extras I'm still finding like the trunk goodies (hooks, hiding places). I'm fairly impressed with the build quality. I was initially worried because VW has not done well in pleasing Consumer Reports readers at least (if you believe everything you see in CR). I was also leary because of the parts makeup of the car (35% Germany, 35% Mexico, etc...). After a week, I cannot find a single thing wrong with the car, which is very unusual for me - I'm a freak about those types of things. No noises, squeaks, rattles, other unexplainable things. You cannot even tell the engine is running (seriously!) when you are at a stop. The interior noise level seems to be better controlled than BMW's 325i, which I almost bought about an hour before driving the Jetta. In comparing these cars, the Jetta is actually quicker (seat of the pants feeling), and the engine seems smoother. I still cannot figure out how to make the lights on the outside of the mirrors come on, but I suspect it's because I didn't get the "coming/leaving home" option. This leads me to wonder why VW put those mirrors on a car that does not have that option...
Things I'm delighted over: Since it's a six speed manual, if you step hard into the gas pedal in just about any gear at its entry speed for that gear, it has MONSTROUS torque (perhaps a little scary if you're not careful). No finish blemishes, paint problems, loose panels, noises of any kind, which is more than I can say for the last two Toyota and Honda products I bought - V8 Tundra and 4 cyl. Accord...read morehide

- great torque
people pay attention to the torque -- max. already at 1800RPM -- if you compare this to a japanese car you got considerable more power available at low and medium rpm -- so the 200HP compare to 400HP on a honda

- Fuel economy, Audi Turbo four thrust, lots of standard features, refined interior, price
The new engines adopted to the new series provide the power the previous Jetta sort of lacked. Especialy, the new turbo four from the Audi A3,4 now makes the Jetta stand out in its class. The exterior is more aggressive now with big chrome grill, smoother lines, and nicer alloy wheels. I actually thought the interior was nicer than the Audi A3. All this comes with an economy car price....read morehide
