- Pros
- Nice interior/Exterior
- Cons
- Rattles in Dash, Exhaust Light, Trunk not opening, backfiring, poor A/C
I had a 2.5 Jetta brand new that I put almost 10,000 miles on it. I wanted to keep it but after it got the poorest rating in Consumer Reports and my constant trips to the dealer, I decided to trade it in while it was still worth something...and running! I bought a 07 Subaru Legacy and will never buy another VW again...esp. the German cars made in Mexico which every dealer told me is a very bad place to have a car made!...read morehide

- Pros
- Safety Features, Looks nice, Apparently has a lot of upgrades from others
- Cons
- Too many repairs, made in Mexico=bad, Not good workmanship, dealership needs to be better
We are the the 20k mile mark. PLus- it drives smoothy, stabely, and I feel safe in it. Pros-It's been into the dealership on about 5 different occations, each time for warrenty work. A/C has been repaired 3-4 times and is still not fixed, we sweat inside the car. Time before last, there was a major recall about the a/c breaking off pieces and slowly destroying itself. This repair took about 3 days to complete and required for the whole front area of the engine to be removed. Truck latch has been replaced 3 times, still doesn't close on the first try. A/C vent directors have broken in 4 different vents that I know of. Steering wheel had a screw missing, was making noise. Engine whisles at 60mph, they claim not a problem.Front dash will squeek occationally. Keys have been known to not open the trunck, and the one I found scary tonight. I unclocked all doors when i was exiting the vehical so I could get my sleeping baby out of the backseat, The backdoors wouldn't unlock. I tried from the passanger side as well to have all doors unlock, it wouldn't work. I had to use the key. Is this car a lemon? I'm beginning to wonder....read morehide

- Pros
- Good fuel economy, nicely equipped with Pkg 1.
- Cons
- where do I begin?
Worst mistake ever, buying this car. I bought it new, 7 months ago, and it has been in for repairs 5 times already. The car broke down on the highway the day after I bought it (dealing with VW roadside assistance was a nightmare!), power seat has needed to be fixed on 3 occasions, satelite radio doesn't always work and dealer can't figure it out, paint started peeling on rear bumper and plastic started to warp....read morehide

- Pros
- lots of cargo space
- Cons
- loud start up, rattling in the exhaust.. loud squeaking noise on front windows
I had taken my car to the dealer since the first week I bought it. From the static CD/radio to the rattling of my exhaust during start up, my biggest problem is with the headlights. They would turn off as if my bulb had blown out, and the next day, it would be like nothing happened. I've had "three service updates" done for that already.
I had asked why I burn so much oil, service guys told me its normal to burn a litre of oil in every 16K kilometres, which I found odd since my other cars didn't. It says somewhere in the manual they say. This is my first VW, and with the accummulation of problems since day 1, I have thought about trading it for another make numerous times. I like the '06 2.5, the comfort on the road and the big trunk, but these problems are getting annoying and its a waste of time having to go to the nearest VW service center for a check up every month or so. I had complained about rattling in my front end while driving on the highway. It only happens when I drive in high speeds, the noise sounds like my left tire is gonna pop out. No noise though in city or rural driving. Like before, I was told it was nothing. Wind noise also occurs when driving on the highway. Could it because it was made in Mexico?...read morehide4 out of 12 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- GREAT MPG--I got 48 on my first tank! Tightly built, great interior, trunk space, FUN TO DRIVE
- Cons
- Common looking exterior. Power points are keyed so they turn-off when the key is taken out,
I was hoping for an automatic--for multi-tasking, but I am not disapointed with the 5-speed. Don't let the Low horse power numbers full you. This car is a little rocket with GREAT MPG! we bought it in Milwaukee and drove it around the southern end of lake michigan to muskegon. After putting on some other miles totaling 480. It only took a hair over 10 gals of fuel (priced $.30 lower than reg gas) I'm 6-2 220lbs, I was very comfortable. I am a Silverado driver ad while nothing will compare to the smootness of the V-8 or couch comfort seating and space. I am VERY pleased with the performance and Excited about the MPG. I was thinking about used but was coming up with resale values on 30K miles only a few K's less than new. I like the old style exterior better than the new. but its is not like it's ugly, just looks too common....read morehide

- Pros
- Got 48mpg on the way home from a 250 road trip, love the way it handles.
- Cons
- The sun roof DOES roar at 45 or so, some road noise.
I love this car! Bought this 06, package 2 w 8,800 miles on it from a private party, they have regretted sellling it. Will not miss my SUV at all. The "sport mode" is to die for. I live in Western Oregon at the coast, lots of curves and it handles great. I am a 51 yr old woman and this car makes me feel 18 again.. needs to be bottled!

- Pros
- 6-speed is fun to drive
- Cons
- Poor service from VW, Airbag light, coolant light, etc keep coming on
I've had so many issues with this car. Car sometimes doesn't start. Have to take the key out of the ignition and try again and then it generally does. Dealers have no clue what the problem is. Have XM satellite radio and occassionally one of my presets will mysteriously go back to being set to the XM Preview channel. Once again, dealers are clueless. Airbag warning light has come on a few times for no reason and dealer needs to reset it. Coolant light just started coming on and looking through the manual, all seems well with my coolant. Transmission warning light came on and when I took it to the dealer they said that they didn't have the proper tool to diagnose it. They said they'd call me when the tool comes in and it has only been 7 months and I'm still waiting for a call. Have even tried contacting VM customer service via phone and email and have received no useful help. Would NEVER buy another VM in my life. How does a car with less than 11,000 miles have so many issues?...read morehide

- Pros
- Great!!!! Fuel Economy
- Cons
- Unusual Rattle Noise Inside The Car
Just wanted to tell every body that I left a review back in 11/27/2006 and am here to keep every body updated in my experience with the 2006 Jetta TDI. I bought the car with 0 mile and now am at 15,000 miles am happy to say that I have not had no problems with my TDI. The car runs great like one I first drove of the dealer lot also the car still handel's great and am still getting that great fuel economy of 500+ mile on one tank.......
CON....One thing that I would say that I have experience a problem with is a cabin noise. It sounds like its coming from the dash and some time from the rear it sound like a rattle noise. Its not a everyday going thing but I can hear it from time to time..........read morehide2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Good fuel economy
- Cons
- Lifetime repair costs, dependability
I own a 2001 VW Jetta TDI and it will be the last. The hype about German engineering is negated by the assembly in Mexico. (Check the label on the driver side door frame to see where your Jetta is assembled.) I have had the Lifetime Oil Changes done at the proper interval since I owned the vehicle. At the 55,000 mile point, I had to have the glow plugs replaced and every 15,000 miles after that I had some problem in that area. It was either one or more of the glow plugs or the wiring harness itself. That is not cheap. At the 60,000 mile point, your warranty requires you to replace the drive belt and some other things at a $1500 cost. I admit I have 120,000 miles on my Jetta at this point. I recently had to replace the automatic transmission at a cost $4500, average cost for any other make of vehicle is $2500. Nothing is cheap to replace or repair on this car. Do I feel I have a lemon? No. My experience is similar to others. Others have mentioned electrical and wiring problems that I, fortunately, have not had. So my fuel cost savings have been blown in repair costs. I was not prepared and there was no information about repair costs when I bought mine. Good luck finding it today but this was my experience....read morehide
