Purchased As Used
I bought my Value Edition 2.5L Jetta in early 2010 with about 45k miles on it. After over a year, it hasn't had any real defects other than the engine light on once which cost a few hundred to fix. I can't complain as volkswagens are notorious for being pricey when it comes to extras.
The ride on the car is very smooth with now over 60k miles. You don't even really feel the road and outside noise is not bad going fast interstate speeds.
The biggest thing I like about my Jetta is the incredible gas mileage. I've calculated that I get just a shade under 30 mpg on the interstate going 80 mph. In town, I get closer to 20, but can still go over a month without filling up, which is much nicer on my wallet than my previous nissan altima.
Another great thing is that despite being the value edition, it still has good features such as ABS, traction control, and the option of using tiptronic transmission. This is all very nice living in North Dakota, making my little Jetta still able to get around virtually everyday here. The tiptronic is basically like semi-automatic so you can decide when you want to shift, to use when the roads are snowy.
In addition, the price is another great thing about the car. Definitely lives up to the slogan 'great for the price of good.'
One thing I don't like about it is how it really isn't very fast. I can't complain too much because of the great gas milage, but still it is definitely not the fastest for a 2.5L five cyl.
