- great fuel economy, exhilerating drive, comfortable
Purchased As Used
i absolutely love this car! i couldn't have asked for anything of better quality and price for what i was looking for. i bought mine used with 47,000 miles and it still works like a charm. since i've bought it, i've gotten several compliments from envious friends and strangers about how nice it looks and/or rides.
i test drove a mazda6, corolla, new beetle, civic, jetta and many more. but as soon as i got in my jetta i knew it was the car i wanted....read morehide

- Leather-like interior, mpg, acceleration, comfort, stereo, dash lighting
- None so far
Purchased As New
This is the best deal I have gotten on a car. Fifth cylinder gives an extra lift over other 4 cylinders in its class. Handles great, smooth, quiet, quick, decent sound system, anthracite leather-like seating is great alternative to more expensive leather in other brands. Traded a 2007 Civic EX and haven't thought twice about it since....read morehide

- Best Interior, excellent handling, decent power, powerful audio system
- No automatic headlamps and power seats in SE trim
Very good vehicle over all, ride is nice, corners well, interior is best in class, fuel economy could be better, i am with in 1000 miles, i am getting around 26 mpg in mixed driving. My only complains are, no power seat and automatic head lamps on a 20,000 plus car is unacceptable. It would be nice to have 4 year warranty as compared to 3 with free maintenance, other than that great car.
Thought of Corolla and Civic but those were way underpowered, they have higher reliability than Jetta though. In the end better handling, more power and Nicer inetrior of Jetta won over Corolla and Civic.
We have two kids, both under ten, they enjoy this car too. Leg room in the back might be concern for adults in the back. I have been looking at the quality of Jetta for last three years and thought that 09 will be good buy since quality has been improved quite a bit as compared to pre 2005 Jetta.
SE is the sweet spot price to buy, higher trim level bring price to Passat level....read morehide

- SEATS, SIZE, GAS
My husband and I went through AutoSource and built and bought a VW Jetta Se. It is the 1st VW that I have ever owned and after driving it almost a week - I absolutly love it! The exterior could be a little more unique but you know what - I still love it! The seats on the inside are very comfortable and I love that you can put the seat up or down. My daughter likes it all the way up - My father likes it all the way down. It is made to work how you want it! Its very luxurious on the inside which makes it more enjoyable. I was worried however going from a Honda Accord to a Jetta about the size - the room on the inside. BUT I believe I like it better in the VW. Its the perfect size for me and my family....read morehide

- Pre Paid maintenance, ride, pickup, I'll never buy anything but a VW
- VW doesn't offer the TDI in all of its cars
I drove the Accord, Civic, Camry, and Volvo and NOTHING compares to the value I get for the money in my Jetta SE, its got a ipod adapter and man, great Pickup. I've had japanese cars my whole life but after riding in this Jetta I'll never buy anything else. After driving my jetta all the other import cars in my price range seem very cheaply made....read morehide

- good mileage, handles very well and the trunk is huge!
- The ride is a bit rough but I expected that and actually like it for the car.
I bought my Jetta a year ago and love it. I wasn't so sure that I'd like a VW as I had never owned one but I am very pleased with it and really enjoy driving it.

- Nice equipement for the price, well built, fun to drive
- No controls in the steering wheel
I just bought this 2009 SE from Armstrong VW and they were very easy to deal with, that was nice! All I can really say is that after looking at the Mazda 3 and Suburu Legacy I was immediatly comparing them to the Jetta. It is fun to drive, has good power and besides the lack of control in the steering wheel for stereo and cruise control it really is well equiped and everything works great!...read morehide

- Fuel Economy, seats, safety, engineering
- Engine noise, serviceability, creaks and rattles, VW service is the worst (Burdick Driver's Village)
I get a consistent 29-34 miles per gallon. But fuel economy and comfortable seats can't redeem a car that is nearly impossible to fix. VW service is by far the worst I've ever encountered. My Jetta was out of service for 17 days over 5 service visits because of a headlight switch. The car was damaged while being repaired and required paint and body work that took a week, during which time Burdick VW/Driver's Village of North Syracuse, NY damaged the side airbag sensor, requiring another week (at a different dealer) to repair. Service techs are clearly overwhelmed by a vehicle that is not designed to be quickly or easily worked on. Very high maintenance costs (oil changes, brakes). Every service encounter leads to a second visit for work not done correctly or completely, back-ordered parts, and service loaners that don't exist.
And for 2009, ESP is standard, but the price is up $350 while the basic warranty is shorter by 1 year, from 48mo/50,000miles to 36mo/36000miles. The active head restraints are gone, and materials and features are cheaper or missing altogether throughout the car.
I read that VW is hoping to triple their sales in the U.S. over the next few years. It won't happen. All the cool, hipster ad campaigns can't conceal the fact that VW's corporate attitude assumes that people buying low-priced vehicles should have lowered expectations for an ownership experience. But VWs haven't been cheap cars for years and they break down regularly. Consumer Reports states that an 8 year old Toyota is more reliable than a 2 year old VW. We have both products in my family and there is simply no comparison. Until they get their act together with their horrible dealer service, ranked 2/5 by J.D. Power (only Isuzu is worse), they will continue to be trumped by the Japanese, Koreans, and even the Americans. My first VW, and my last. Can't wait to sell it and get another Toyota....read morehide

- Great handling - excellent braking system - comfort - economy - fit and finish
- A little costly compared to the Asian rivals - but worth it!
VW is finally beginning to figure out the North America market. My Jetta SE does it all for a fair price. VW needs to bring the new diesel to scale as well as to make available their 1.4 L "blower-turbo" engine for the Jetta and Rabbit. The Jetta is basically a bargin Audi and well worth the price....read morehide
