- Feul economy
- slow, depreciate quickly, hard unconfortable seat
Purchased As New
I downgraded from my prior car as 2005 Honda Accord V6 Coupe, and 2001 Nissan Xterra. Jetta is not as sporty as it boasts about, and I think the problem is its 6 speed transmission. It makes it hard to pass someone on the highway because it always put you in a higher gear when you need it to be in the lower gear. It is like you are in the middle of 40 miles per hour merging highway upwards, and you are in 5th gear and you accelerate to 50 mph and it is in 6th gear. You then press harder to gas peddle and it down shift to lower gear suddenly and you become quicker and noisier suddenly. It is annoying. I may have bought 2.0T instead. Another problem is it is very unconfortable for long ride. I am a 6 feet guy communting 110 miles per day. When there is traffic, you get exhausted very easily. The seat (cloth) is very hard and hard to merge yourself in. The rear mirror is small and you need to look left to make sure there is no car in the blind area. It is not unreliable, but I have spent about $500 on several lights (tail lights, engine sensor). I am not unhappy with this car, but not necessarily happy. If I could choose again, I would avoid Jetta S.
