Purchased As New
I got this car from a dealer back in October of 98. I have really enjoyed the free maintenance on this car- it makes it so easy to make sure it's properly taken care of. A few things that I've noticed and don't really like. 1) The I-pod connection- you can't see what song is playing, or choose what folder you would like to play from. 2) The DSG transmission- when cold- is very rough when stopping without using your brakes- and doesn't feel smooth like a new car should. 3) The locking system has been having some glitches- my rear passenger door has been staying locked sometimes and won't open even if you unlock all doors. There is also no manual pull to unlock the doors if the automatic unlock does not work. I wonder about the safety of this locking system if there happened to be a car accident and the electrical system didn't work. 4) The mileage isn't as good as I expected- I drive 10 miles to work and rarely get above 30 MPGs, and but I can get 40 if most of the drive is downhill. 4) I wish there was a ding guard around the car instead of all being metal - the car doors get bumped and marked very easily. 5) I already need new front springs- and have think that 20,000 miles is a little too few to already need them replaced (nice that they are all paid for by VW )- just inconvenient.
Overall I think the design is very nice- it's the best looking wagon I've seen in a long time. The storage is great- my dog has plenty of room in the trunk. I love the truck owners that try and stop me when I fill up with diesel- they think they are saving my engine- but I get to tell them I have a diesel- and their looks are priceless!
