We have over 16k on our TDI Jetta Sportwagon and are very pleased with its size, cargo room, handling and general fit and finish. The mileage, which we track meticulously, is less than 34mpg city (San Francisco) and 41-45 mpg highway (flat, no headwind, 70 - 75mph). The IPOD adaptor is a real disappointment - does not fit an Itouch nicely nor does it charge (this will be fixed in the next generation Jetta). What's worse is there are no inexpensive workarounds and VW will not offer any assistance. Audio quality is above average. The dash lights look cool, but are invisible with sunglasses. The radio readout is washed out in the day and hard to read at night due to the lack of contrast. VW should rethink their signature blue dials against black and go with the BMW model of amber hands. The inability to option rain sensing wipers, steering wheel controls, full electric seats and xenon headlights is disappointing. The leatherette seats are a practical alternative to leather. The black carpeting shows everything right away and is a challenge to keep clean due to the odd shape of the floor pans. Reliability unknown. One of the air vent vanes has broken, one of the rear door gas struts fell off on delivery(easy to fix).
