Have a 2010 the sport wager, fun car to drive but unfortunately the saying with VW appears to still be valid today, "soon as your warranty is up, trade it in". The reliably with higher miles is just plain sad. The high pressure fuel pump failed ($1000) which is a known issue with this car now after researching on the net, the air compressor failed ($1200) the electric motor on one of the windows failed, ($500), a glow plug failed, another know issue of this diesel vw, there are 4, ($400 each), however if these fail in concert with the harness and timing belt (another known issue) then cost can run to $5,000. If the fuel pump fails and leaks and not replaced it can lead to engine seizing (new engine $15,000) as described to me by authorized vw mechanic. I traded it in for new mini countryman and will never buy another vw!
