2005 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon

- Made in Germany, classy, solid build & ride, 3 years-no rattles.
- Too much punch off the 1st gear. I like it, my passengers don't.
2003 Jetta GL Wagon; same as 2005.. 2 power steering leaks (under warranty), 1 coolant leak (under warranty), electronic (recall), and 1 blown tire (I hit a submerged curb in heavy rain). Expect high rpms on the stock 2.0 engine. They don't call it the "2-point-slow" for nothing. Very smooth ride at 80 mph though not luxury. This is a driver's car even as a station wagon, so I'm impressed given what is expected out of a better-quality commuter car. Brakes are tight & predictable, more responsive than any car in its class.
1 key point: Wagon is built out of the Wolfsburg factory in Deutcheland.
If you can't afford a Passat, get the Jetta Wagon. The Wagon is the only German-built base model Jetta in the USA. I'm pretty sure the Mexico-built Jetta sedan & Golf are the ones experiencing reliability issues, because I abuse my wagon and it's doing just fine. However, I am the type of owner who checks under the hood regularly, but I actually have not had to replace or fix anything so far besides usual maintenence.
It's pretty much a cheaper Passat. You can see and feel the value in this car, right down to the plastic paneling. I'll be trading this in for the 2006 Jetta... we'll see how that one goes..
