- Zipppy engine, pure driving fun
- Small trunk, passenger side door rattle, limited accessories
My wife just picked up her 07 Gecko Green Convertible Beetle. Its zippy little 2.5 engine is a blast to drive with the 5 speed manual. Lots of headroom and front seat legroom. The backseat legroom is better suited for little ones or amputees. Small trunk, but that's expected from a convertible - which by the way is a cinch to manually open and close. With the top closed, the interior noise is much quieter than I expected. With the top down, there is a rattle in the passenger side door which we will try to have VW check out. Dash is simple to read yet looks very sophisticated. The AUX (iPod) input jack is worth its weight in gold. The OEM stereo rocks and even defeats the wind noise when the top is down. Only other diappointment is the limited accessories selection VW or the aftermarket offers - I can't find a tan convertible boot anywhere. After you check out just how much BMW, Audi, and Merc-Benz's are, definitely consider this vehicle for pure, German engineering that is just as fun to drive and costs less than half of the other German types. I swore I'd never drive this thing when my wife bought it since I'm a hard core American truck type. But now even I can't resist driving the little bugger.
