- Fun to drive and lots of power
- If your not a mechanic stay away from it.
My Turbo Diesel is a great little car as most of you know that own one.
I have been reading a lot of reports from ya'll and find it very funny that the Local dealers are taking such advantage of you.
$107.oo for a headlight replacement is really taking advantage of you. It litterly takes about 10 minutes to change a headlight bulb. All you need a screwdriver and a finger to change it. The turbo diesel is the hardest and it still takes about 10 minutes. Get a manuel, read it and do not be bent over by the dealer.. Whom ever it was that was taken advantage of I would go back to the dealer and ask why when it is so simple and quick to change.
I don't know why a local oil change shop will not change the oil. It is not different than any oil change, just make sure they use an oil with the proper CF rating, you can use synthic or standard oil but it must be for a diesel. Mobil 1 now have a CF rating. Again if you are able get the manuel and use it. Working on any car is half the fun of having it.
In closing don't throw all the beetle out with the bath water just because a few have problems and don't be afraid if contacting the
Regional Rep for VW and get in his or her case when you have a problem with a dealer. Ask for service reports and recalls from the dealer, if they would give them to you speak with the Regional Rep,
hold their feet to the fire and enjoy a great little fun car....read morehide

- Classic look,,,,great excelleration
- Could have more back seat room
I bought a 2001 GLS Turbo. It has 118,00 miles and had a few misc. problems that the dealer took care of well. After 4 years of HARD DRIVING, I thought I'd buy a new one. Yesterday I drove home my 2005 Turbo. Hopefully it will service me as well as the last one!
BTW,,,,,Dealer maintanance is expensive for ALL cars. Not just the
New Beetle. Stop whining everybody~...read morehide

- I must say that my 2003 Turbo "Color Concept" Beetle gets a TON of looks!
- I have had so many electrical problems with this vehicle.
My 2003 is very sharp. The appearance is awesome. The black and red leather seating is great, not to mention the ''automatic spoiler'' that comes up at 45 mph! However, those few details do not compare to the numerous electrical problems the vehicle has had. I have had the headlight fixed 4 times. Also, the drivers side window has been fixed 3 times. The weirest thing has to be all the electrical items in the car turning off and on. I have to say this was the WORST. With gas at $ 3.25 *(for PREMIUM)* in Ohio, it is getting INSANE to keep the beetle on the road! It guzzles gas like a Hummer. My previous car WAS a Toyota Celica, but this is INSANE! My mother and I purchased our cars at the same time, she also has a 03' Beetle. Her car is perfect. No problems! (except the dealership forgeting to put coolent in it when she purchased it!!) Overall I would NEVER buy another Beetle. I am very disapointed....read morehide

- Easy and fun to drive, roomy, fuel ecomonic is fair,
- I have not found one bad thing yet
I love this car! It is fun to drive and its roomy. My husband and I fit in this car with ease. The options that come on the car are great. The dealer in which we purchased the new beetle from was terrific and made the purchase experience wonderful. I can't say enough about this car!. We live in the Cleveland area and the best dealer to purchase this vehicle is Fred Vincent in Willoughby Hills!...read morehide

- fuel economy not bad, take rear seat out along with the headrests and you have a lot of room
- check engine light, windows, trunk latch, broken heated passenger seat, hoses getting holes
I love this car, it is a blast to drive and its cute and stylish. BUT, I owned a 1998 then bought a 2000 1.8T.
Both vehicles had to have the trunk latch fixed two times each.
I sold the 98 due to the light beige cloth interior which was a bear to keep clean.
Bought the 2000 with leather and this one was a lot easier to keep clean.
Problems I have had with the 2000-
two times had to have the windows fixed - electrical and circut
fixed the cable that opens the gas cover
three times check engine light came on for a small pin size hole in the hoses.
took car in three times for the cooling light staying on - yes i warmed it up and it stayed on -replace two sensors then the cooling reservior.
check engine light came on again - had to replace the ECM-thank God I only had 79000 miles on my car-was covered under warrenty...
that is all I can remember at the momement. I just sold the car at a loss before something else go bad and it is no longer under warrenty.
Volkswagon needs to get their standards back up....
I will buy another Bug if or when they get the product back in the good with consumer report. Maybe I just got a lemon but according to consumer report must be lots of lemons out there disguised as new beetles....if you buy make sure you don't buy one with an "M" in the vin number - those were the ones out of Mexico and are really bad which mine was......read morehide
