- Quick, nimble and looks great!
I wanted to spend more, Acura TL-S or Infiniti G35 were my initial choices, then I saw the GTI at the auto show. After doing major homework on the GTI, it was a slam dunk, this car rocks and is easily modified to some very serious performance.
Consider this car before you spend more!

- The GTI is still the best performace car for the money!
- I still looking for a con!
I highly recommend Volkswagen and this car to anyone! The leather package that comes with dual zone climate control is worth the extra $$$! The 18" wheels look great, are easy to clean and are a bargain at an extra $750!

- Awesome and fun.
- There is no limited or elite model to buy.
I purchased this car in October and love it. I got it fully loaded and reccomend others do the same. It's handling is tight and its get up and go even better. It is truly the ultimate city car. Small, fast, comfortable, fuel efficient, and looks cool with tinted windows.

- very quick, very responsive handling
- while the hatchback is practicle, it is not very flashy
the GTI is loads of fun on any windy paved roads but at the same time will hold its own on a highway. driving it actually remindes me of my previous car, and '03 mini cooper, except for the GTI's 6.2 0-60 time compared to the minis high 7. the one thing i was worried about buying the a light, fairly fast front wheel drive car, was having a lot of tourque steer, which seems to be thankfully absent.
the plaid seats are very hot, and are plenty comfortable for a long trip. i routinly drive the car back and forth 4 hours from new york to vermont and 3 hours from new york to boston with minimal discomfort. another plus for me is that being 6'5, i have more than enough leg room driving or sitting in the back seat...read morehide

- acceleration, torque, almost 0 turbo lag, DSG is awsome
- Price when optioned up, questionable dealer service
This car is a very fun car to drive. 2 doors are not a problem with the nifty quick seat slide mechanism. In point and squirt driving the tourqe curve is so flat it will out perform many other "hot" cars with a horsepower advantage in real world driving. Quality seems very good with this car. After experiencing the DSG transmission other automatics feel like their gears are slipping. The hatchback design is very practicle and useful. Because of the DSG transmission, great engine, good handling, sunroof and nice audio system this car can accomodate almost any mood. I love shifting manual transmissions and do miss the clutch and shifter involement at times. I test drove the manual version of this car and found it to be very good, but the DSG's flexibility is trully awesome. Paddle shift, sport mode or plain auto you have your choice with this transmission. This is not an extreme or fringe car. It does many things very, very well....read morehide

- constant torque between 1800 and 5000 RPM, good traction
- very hard ride, bad sound system
If you ever test-drive this car, do it on a highway with lots of bumps. The ride is so stiff the car is moving all the time. We got back-pain because of it. This may be ok for German roads but not for California roads. And you never knew how bad a road really is, until you drove it in such a car. The engine is great -- torque over a very wide band -- compare the torque of this car with the 240HP Honda Coupe -- they nearly match -- but the Honda reaches this torque only at 5000RPM. So this car is more powerful at such RPMs where it really matters -- from 1800-4000RPM. When are you actually driving at 5000RPM -- nearly never. Power=Torque*RotationalSpeed*2*pi.
The stiff ride also has a good side -- when accelerating there is nearly no movement of the car and thus the front-wheels don't start to slip.
Add to this the electronic differential lock and you get very good traction. I hate the Americanized red rear blinkers and would consider importing rear light lenses from Europe to get around this.
The previous GTI generation has a much softer suspension
-- no comparison with this car....read morehide

- Engine Noise in cockpit. The red lights on the ceiling is so awesome. GAS IS GREAT!!
- With the 18' the ride is sort of rough.
I love everything about my car. I'm a VW true owner and had a VW Jetta before this and I took the automatic GTI out with the slap shift on the steering wheel and was sold at first stomp on the gas pedel. Of course any true racing goo roo would get the six speed manual transmission. It handles like a dream and pick-up on the highway is increible. What i love most of all is the stares i get for being a woman and driving such an amazing machine!! My GTI is black with black leather interior and i just recently got the windows tinted...she is a beauty!!! It's worth all the hard work every month to make the car payment.....read morehide
