2007 Volkswagen New GTI User Reviews
2.0T Coupe shown
- $9,649 - $11,909
- Good handling.
- To get the leather package, I had to spend 3000 dollars for the package. And seats are not auto.
Great car. I bought the GTI 07 four door instead of the Ford Mustang 2007. I drove the mustang first, thought it was good but not great. Then I drove the GTI 07 and fell in love with it. So, thats what I bought. And Im very happy with it.

- No trim specified for this review
- Fast, great handling, unbelievable for the price
- Not sure there is one
This car is just fantastic! It is so much fun to drive, quick and handles amazingly. Very solid stereo, very comfortable, looks small but with the seat layed down you can fit far more than you would ever expect in the car. I absolutely love driving this car, but can be paranoid driving in the crazy DC streets (if you have ever been to DC and have seen that almost every car has scrapes and dents, you understand why). Would love to get this thing back to my home state of Colorado and unleash it on the winding mountain roads. You would be hard pressed to find a better car for the money. An amazing ride!...read morehide

- Great Style, Awesome performace, Comfort, Great highway fuel
- None, Not many aftermarket performace parts YET!! until then loving it!
This car is so much fun to drive! Ever since they day bought it I have loved it. I have black with the 17s. I work for my fathers company and requires many sales calles all across Chicago. This car makes it easy to park in small parking spaces. (I normally park in way at the end of the parking lots cause i love it so much) In the city is very easy to get around. This car has plenty of power stock. Cant wait until the R32 comes our or i think it will be called the R36. I have recently had a close friend purchase this car also. There is nothing bad about this car !! Love the all new GTI!!!...read morehide

- Fast and Agile! A real eye catcher! Runs circles around other cars!!!
- Speed limited to 130 mph! C'mon!!!!
The car is so agile, darting in an out of traffic but can sprint away like a deer on fire! The best purchase I ever made! I've had alot of people ask me what kind of car this is...it's look is so different from alot of the Honda and Toyota clones and it stands out uniquely from the Beamers, Benzes, and Lexuses! This is the only car I have ever really looked forward to driving, it's like slipping on a glove; it becomes an extension of my will and soul! A practical muscle car!...read morehide

- Youthful, quick, great HWY economy, great value for it's features and details
- Top and nose heavy, no power seat for leather, poor local fuel economy
It came down to the A3 and the GTI, and I picked the latter. For one, I have always loves the VW GTI. It is a youthful classic and it is a great first car if one has the budget. The car is well built, solid, great looking, loaded with standard features, safe, reasonable priced for its features and details, easy to drive manual gear box, a everyday car, comfortable, good highway fuel economy, torque on demand any point above 2000 rpm, now with 5 doors, and its almost $8Gs cheaper than the very same car but with different sheet metals and badge, and the list goes on.
I love my GTI MkV 5-door hatch in Candy White, it is one the most well rounded car in its class. As much as I love this car, it has its frauds. The following list is what I didnt agree with the engineers and designers, and what needs to be improved or address in the next GTI.
1.The 6 speed manual is smooth as silk to shift, however the clutch is too light and lacks feel and feedback. Something I like better in the 9-2 and WRX.
2.The steering wheels size and shape is perfect and the steering is precise and effortless, but the electric assist cant keep up when I do quick U-turns or getting out of the parking space. This part is where the Civic Si 07 shines.
3.Trunk space is much smaller than the WRX, 9-2, and the Matrix. The rear seat does not fold completely flat, something the Matrix is good for. Water proof trunk space is a plus for the Matrix. The GTI is a drivers car, comfortable, and perfect for road trips. The designers shall emphasize more in interior functions.
4.The car feels top and nose heavy and they are noticeable in braking and cornering. However, the suspensions are great and the ride is comfortable even with 18 wheels and handles solid. The engine is quick and consistent torque from 2500 rpm to redline which makes up for it.
5.The cruise control and the turn signal share the same knob. Operating the cruise setting often leads to faults signaling. Only if the cruise function can be set via the steering wheel and the information center or have a separate knob for it.
6.Wind noise is minimums and has better engine noise isolation compare to it competitors, but road noise is noisier. This might due to it 18 wheels and summer tires.
7.I never drove a car opted with genuine leather package, dual zone climate control, and power lumbar support without power driver seats. I understand they tried to save weight and keep the car sport oriented, but this package costs nearly than $3K with tax.
8.The turbo loss it potency quickly when it gets hot under intense driving. This happens when the turbo and the engine generate more heat then intercooler can dispense. This is normal for all turbo vehicles with small intercooler, but this was noticeable shortly when I test drove the car in the morning at 38 F just 10 mins I pull out of the dealer. I believe this problem should be address by utilizing a bigger or relocating the intercooler.
9.I averaged31 mpg on the highway with some local driving during my trip from Chicago to Champaign (almost 3 hr trip). Poor local fuel consumption at 18 mpg in the downtown Chicago. I average around 24 to 26 mpg per tank, with 60% to 70% highway with cruise control on.
10.No key entry on passenger side door and rear hatch.
11.Fuel door on passenger side. Not convenient during fueling when I have to walk around the car or run away from tugs when I fuel up in the south side....read morehide

- Kick ass acceleration, rock solid tracking, interior comfort, radio, others
- Not sure about the mileage yet, particularly around town
I could have said "Drives like buttah" or "Just like heaven" (with apologies to The Cure) or a number of other cute things. When I was sitting in my kid's dentist office and read that VW and Honda were each coming out (finally after five parent years in the wilderness) with real affordable sports sedans I just waited until both models hit the dealerships, read the Yahoo reviews and did my test drives. I've had cars with better acceleration and cars with more nimble handling but in terms of overall kick and tracking the GTI seems the best sedan combination available today for an affordable price. I really wanted the cheaper Civic Si to be my first choice (I went through at least two or three CRX Si's before they sadly discontinued it), but unfortunately it had a few problems - the power doesn't really kick in unless you beat it, otherwise it seems to have what's become the customary disappointingly mediocre Civic power, and the handling didn't feel as tight as the GTI. The Civic somehow feels "bigger" on the road, and I mean that in a negative way. We'll see how the VDub goes but for now the only unanswered question is around-town gas mileage. Otherwise I'm living the Dream........read morehide

- Quick, nimble and looks great!
I wanted to spend more, Acura TL-S or Infiniti G35 were my initial choices, then I saw the GTI at the auto show. After doing major homework on the GTI, it was a slam dunk, this car rocks and is easily modified to some very serious performance.
Consider this car before you spend more!

- The GTI is still the best performace car for the money!
- I still looking for a con!
I highly recommend Volkswagen and this car to anyone! The leather package that comes with dual zone climate control is worth the extra $$$! The 18" wheels look great, are easy to clean and are a bargain at an extra $750!
