- 48mpg!!! Amazing quality, quiet engine, lots of power! BIO DIESEL!!
- NONE traded my 04 1.8t for the TDI and it was a great choice!!
First bought a 1.8t 4cyl gls passat it was a 2004 model, Engine ended up sluggish after about 20k miles 28mpg was the best on the highway and wasnt much compared to the diesel which the diesel is close to 50mpg!
The gls model has leatherette seats, seat warmers, 6cd changer, 17inch wheels, moonroof, and many more options!
the 2.0TDI diesel engine is fast! was alot faster than the 1.8t gas version and is quiet! sounds like a gas car when you run it on bio-diesel and less vibration when on bio-diesel!.
The best part i make my own bio-diesel at 70cents a gallon!! and VW covers the use of bio-diesel in the warranty!!! No complains about the car except for headroom in back which is minor. Love the car will keep it forever!!...read morehide

- Quiet comfortable ride, excellent economy and performance, this is not your father's diesel
- slightly low aspect for entery and exit for taller folk...where can I store my cds?
I have driven this car for about six months now and cannot say enough good things about it. My freinds and co-workers would like me to be quiet about it! The sound system is competent, the gauges and controls are well laid out and easy to use. I finally gave up my V-8 truck for a smaller more fuel efficent car, and boy am I going to pay for this car fast!!...read morehide

- Excellent Fuel Economy, very comfortable, DIESEL, handling is very good
- center console armrest needs to be moved forward, no bluetooth, no nav
This is an excellent car and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a mid-sized sedan or wagon. The fuel economy is excellent and the EPA averages are on the conservative side. We've observed 33mpg in city driving and 41mpg on the hwy. The car is very comfortable and the 205/55 16" tires hold the road very well.
The option for a diesel will be paid back not only in fuel economy, but also vehicle longevity (diesels have fewer moving parts and last much longer than gasoline engines) which will also translate into higher resale value. The diesel performs adequately in standing take offs, but really shines when passing or merging.
The GLS is well appointed, especially with the Leather/Wood and heated seats package.
To get the same fuel economy out of a midsized car there are three options, Passat TDI (GLS ~$28K), Accord-Hybrid (~$33K) or the Mecedes E320 CDI (~$55k). The Passat is the best value for the buck out of the fuel sipping midsized car....read morehide
