We have a 2003 GLS wagon. The biggest prblem is being unable to open the rear liftgate. We have taken it to our local VW dealer at least five times and they still cannot determine the cause. It is very frustrating to be out in the cold or rainy weather trying to load your groceries or unload them for that matter. If VW has the ability and motivation to fix this one and for all then I cannot say a bad word about the car....read morehide

I drive 3-4k a mo. I have 5k on my 05 GLS wagon and its working out very well. You have to watch out for torque steer which can occure at any time but its easy to recover and kinda fun I would recomend this car and the wagon is realy a wagon made to haul and stuff with everythin one needs for long road trips. Good job VW you have me back as a customer (Again)...read morehide

- Excellent safety features, front seat leg room, quality fittings
- Automatic transmission indecisive, small dials
Overall a good vehicle with more usable space than my previous Honda Accord sedan. My sales experience was not altogether pleasant with a last minute add-on to the price ($500) that almost had me walk out on the deal until a compromise was reached (50/50). I am left wondering if that is common. The fuel economy is a little worse than my previous 2.4L Accord and uses premium fuel, but the vehicle is still relatively new and so that may improve....read morehide

- good fuel economy/very reliable on the snowy/wet roads
- no leg room for back the pass
this car is for families with young kid.Very well built car, both exterior and interior are impecable. It comes with front, side, and side-curtain airbags standard.
If you are in the market for a good looking, safe family car, make sure you test drive a Passat Wagon.

- Good looking, very comfortable, excellent fuel economy
- Faulty electric system
Just for your information:
Bought Passat Wagon GLS 2000, runs great. Only concern was the electric system. Key-less lockdoes not lock sometimes after 4 years. Dealer recommended fixing but asked for $900. Control panel backlight has bad electric connection, so does not light up at night. ABS controller broke down, as indicated by the control panel. Dealer recommented and replaced the ABS controller, costing $1,500.
Dealers at Orange County, CA ask for more money to fix problems in my opinion. Giving fixing the parts and replacing the parts, they always choose replacing, which is more expensive. Maybe this is normal......read morehide

- very stable, very reliable on the snowy/wet roads. Good rate power to weight.
I had a Golf and traded it for the Passat, because needed bigger and more powerful car. Like it a lot! Has many safety features.
