Info: we are at approximately 10000 miles. (And have a technical background, but no affiliation with VW.)
Regarding the cons/complaints of others along with extra details:
FUEL-- Premium fuel is not a problem. Though it does cost more, the average MPG of our car (even while exceeding 80mph for long distances) is better than comparable cars (especially Mazda, Kia, & Volvo) that have medium to *large* cargo room. Combining our better MPG with typical fuel costs results in actual savings over other vehicles that use regular grade!! (Do the math...it works.) This is mainly due to the small price difference between premium and regular grades versus the relatively large base price of the regular grade gas. We have much better fuel economy during "highway" driving than during "city" driving, but the city driving appears largely to be a function of driving style...gentle acceleration, along with reducing frequent braking and acceleration cycles, induces much better MPG (note that the driver's display can show this in almost real-time). Sport mode is nice for rapid traffic merging (excellent acceleration with a small initial delay for the turbo to engage...actually beat a Maserati to a lane merge!), but is not as fuel efficient.
ACCELERATION-- As a related issue, it appears that the stability control is the cause of a noticeable acceleration delay from a near-stop position. Turning off the stability control appears to minimize the acceleration lag. (MPG not tested in this case.)
SQUEAKING-- Portions of the front dash are made of a non-standard ("thin" but hardened) plastic, which looks nice but can provide some (minimal!) squeaking/rattling at times. This is not at all a problem in our car (we have not had it in real cold yet...only near-freezing, not '20 below' type conditions), but you could try placing a small amount of baby powder (or similar substance) along the edges of the open/close parts of the "thin" plastic compartments (mostly located on the center console) to reduce noise. However, the majority of "squeaking" type noise actually comes from the rear of the vehicle. The "trunk/wagon" cargo space in the back has a roll-out cover (if you want to hide your contents) that can jiggle within the plastic holder. Take it off if it is bothersome.
WIND NOISE-- With the sunroof open and the windows closed, a cyclical beating noise can develop inside the car (think of the air acting like a slinky). We found the solution to be opening a window slightly. Also, the external wind-visor accessory virtually eliminates this issue.
SUSPENSION-- No problems.
ELECTRICAL-- No problems.
CONTROLS-- The semi-power driver seat is a strange mix in the NA auto market. We do not really care, but fully powered seats seem to be a missing option. The key-fob (electronic key) disengages somewhat slowly, but is not really a problem. The wiper control shaft mounted off of the steering column has multiple positional settings (forward/backward & up/down, along with buttons
