- comfortable, 30 mpg highway, no mechanical issues, cargo area huge
- uses synthetic oil for best performance
My favorite car I've ever owned. I'm going to keep this one until it dies or I do first!

- good lines and room
- many electrical problems, engine problem and the known suspension problem
I leased an 07 3.6l wagon as a company car and wanted to report to those looking for such a car that you may want to look elsewhere.
I have had loads of problems from the minor annoyances (dashboard lights cutting on and off) to a couple of major problems (head blown with 3,000 miles and suspension replaced though faulty by design). I also do not want to forget the wretched radio/stereo they put in these vehicles. I am not a hardcore rocker but the reception is terrible, even listening to the local news report on the radio. Listening to a CD doesn't get much better.
I am displeased with the manner in which VW of America has handled my concerns in a letter I wrote to them. I harbor nothing against them. I am a white collar professional and in my business letters are returned and responded to. It's been 3 months and still have not received a response from VW.
When I leased the car, I considered the idea of purchasing it off-lease. I have revised my plans due to the myriad problems I have experienced with only 8,000 miles on the clock. I do not think my car is an isolated problem car as there seem to be many users here who have shared similar experiences both in wagon and sedan form.
Bottom line: Don't waste your time or your money...read morehide

- It looks Good and it's fast
- In the shop for multiple daya once a month
I have been a VW enthusiast my whole life. My last vehicle was previous model Passat.
When I first bought this car I would have given it 5 stars in everything, and told you it was the best car i ever owned, then I lived with the car for 7 months.
I have had this thing for 7 months, and it has been in the shop for multiple days several times. Mind you this is not the bottom of the line model. I spent serious cash for the best, every option available except the 4motion. This isn't even the little 4 banger model, this has the 3.6 litre engine. Think BMW 3 series pricing, and not the 328...
The lights have gone out 4 times, the brakes have had problems, and the suspension gives an audible clunk every time I get on the accelerator.
I will never buy another VW for as long as I live. That is a sad statement when i used to say I would never buy anything but a VW or a Jeep. now I guess it is just Jeep (though i might trade the Passat for a Honda)...read morehide

- Nice looking car. Nice interior
- Lots of problems with interior parts. front end problems, bad stereo
My wife and I bought our passat in september of 2006. I first of all felt that the price was very steep for what you are getting in the car. For $35,000 my car didn't even come with heated seats. After owning the car for three months I started to get a loud sqeeking noise coming from the front end and I took the car to VW three times and they were unable to fix the problem and the car still makes noise. The radio in the car has extremely bad radio reception and I have to use the CD player to get decent sound. The engine is noisy and the car rides poorly due to the low profile tires. I also must say that there are things about these cars that you are not told at the dealer because they could have an effect on you as to whether or not you will buy the car. The reason I say this is related to the cost of repairs and the reguire fuel option which there is none. The interior has been falling apart. For instance the head liner rattles in the rear and had to be repaired. The windshield wipers hit the body of the car and VW told me that this was normal. I also feel that the service department is rude to the customers when you have problems. I recently traded the vehicle in and the vehicle was upside down $16,000 my jaw hit the floor when I heard this. My insignias on my keys also rubbed off just from normal use and I was told by VW that this is normal wear and tear. Granted I was told this after I owned the car for only three months. My only advice to someone thinking about buying one of these cars is DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST and look at all of your options. These cars require 91 octane fuel and synthetic motor oil which is very expensive. The oil change on this car is $65.00 and windshield wiper blades are $35.00. These cars are very appealing to the eye but the mechanical part of these cars is very bothersome, being that you will be in the shop a lot and be inconveinenced because of it. These cars are not dependable and are not a good bang for your buck. I hope that this will help you in your car buying decision. If you are looking for something that will not give you any trouble this is not the car for you. TRUST ME...read morehide

- Great luxury features for price
- We are submitting a Lemon Law claim
We upgraded from our 2003 Passat Wagon kind of on a whim. We saw the new 2007 when we went in for an oil change and bought it on the spot. The car has luxury features that are on par with much more expensive cars and we understand why VW gets criticism from the financial press for "over-engineering" their cars. You definitely get a lot for you money.
However, we have had SO MANY problems with the car that we are submitting a Lemon Law claim. We have had problems with the brakes, airbags, idle, key eject and many rattles that the dealer cannot repair. The dealer finally threw up their arms and told us to just go to the manufacturer, so we are. We are really sad because we love the car (when it works) but we have had it in the shop an average of once a month for an average of two days per visit for every month we have owned the car, which has been only since last July.
Obviously there are a lot of nice reviews on this site and the car deserves it for the package of features that it has but we got a bad copy....read morehide

- Power, style and handling...I opted for the 3.6L with the Sport Package, nice brushed aluminum and
- limited cargo area...
Also considered the Lexus IS350 and BMW 3Series, but could not part from the VW character and value proposition.

- Quiet Ride, 24 MPG in town, dynaudio, paddle shift, manumatic, room, 280 HP, awsome
- touchy brakes but could be a good thing, controls for climate are hard, no seek control on wheel
I used to be one of those people who thought that station wagons were a wimpy soccer mom car. But after driving this wagon I was proven wrong. This is a great vehicle. The price is right (with all options around $31,000), great gas mileage, nimble performance, drives just like passat sedan, great engine. The drive was fun especially with the paddle shifters and manumatic. The room in it was great too. I have a 60 lb puppy (lab) and the back is a great size for him and luggage. The back leg space is great. Only this I dont like is how often the turbo kicks in and break sensitivity. Also the climate control is wierd. Great buy!...read morehide
