2007 Volkswagen Passat Wagon User Reviews
- $8,307 - $11,147
- Visually appealing, comfortable ride/handling
- ABS Failure, Electric Parking Brake Fault
My 2006 Passat, while a very attractive car, ran well for the first year (I drive less than 7000 per year). With less than 11000 miles now, this car has been serviced 7 times in the last three months where an attempt has been made to correct a parking brake fault and ABS warning indicator. The maintenance of the car has been addressed by one of the best mechanics in the Triangle, NC area but even he is stumped and the latest drama unfolded as the car has spent several days at the dealership with the technician scratching his head trying to figure out how to get me up and running.
The experience has been time consuming and enormously insulting given the low mileage AND the cost of this so-called "value edition." I went out on a limb to purchase this car when everyone told me to stay away from Volkswagens. A relatively new car with low mileage and we're talking about major "system failures?" Unacceptable and once this car is repaired, it's time to trade in for another manufacturer. VW seems to miss the point. People have multiple choices and it's only a matter of time before people get the message and run this company out of the U.S. car market. I feel badly for my dealership which has tried desperately to fix this lemon!!
I will never buy another VW product. Lesson learned - a painful/expensive lesson, but a lesson learned nonetheless. This company is astonishingly unconcerned that the quality of the product is so poor. I shudder when I think of the time and money I've wasted over the past year. Never, never, never again. Think twice, three times, google VWs, ask your friends and colleagues, and hopefully you'll avoid making the same mistake this author and so many others have made....read morehide

- Wagons are soooo sexy, super comfortable, love the ride + overall feel!
- Some interior creaking out in back and around door pillars
I loved my 01 wagon so much I had to buy another. I ended up looking for V6 primarily due to the glowing reviews it got from consumer reports those being safety and more importantly initial/short term reliability as well as projected long term reliability(?). The 2.0T rated below average in reliability ratings per consumer reports. Honestly I'm surprised the two would be that much different. Seeing as though its all based on consumer feedback maybe there's been alot more 2.0Ts sold than 3.6s.
I'm happy that the v6 uses a timing chain and not a belt ($1,000 service). This car even with 4motion is doing way better than advertised on gas mileage. During break in I've been getting 30-31 on the highway. I dont drive fast I keep it around 70. Surprising.
This wagon gets 3 stars for value, I have a base 3.6 4 motion and thus far the only bad things I can say is that for $34,000 sticker a leather wrapped steering wheel would have been nice. I'll put up with the pleather seats cause they are really nice, but aside from sunroof and premium stereo it otherwise is no different inside than a 25,000 base model. I miss my heated seats but I dont think I'd trade the sirius radio for them.
Compared to my old wagon 1.8T fwd, the 2007 seats are more comfortable but the new seats dont pump down nearly as far... bummer...that I miss but I'm getting use to it. I'm 6'3" and sometimes I feel like the rear view mirror is in the way granted I feel like that with most cars, but not my old wagon. Its a louder car, mine has goodyears and they make some noise, wind noise on the highway seems louder too. Not quite as quiet with the sunroof open either.
Also the radio is further away from my comfortable seating position. My last wagon had steering wheel controls for the radio this one does not. The older one I ended up not using them because it was just as comfortable for me to use the actual radio controls. With the new cockpit, personally I would have liked the steering wheel controls....read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- Safety, design and ergonomics, 2.0T FSI engine, best 6 speed auto, ESP, BAS, huge power brakes discs
- no issues over one year
I purchased this car in May 2006 over Accord, Camry and Maxima. It is by far the most advanced car in this group in terms of tehnology, features and ergonomics. The tehnology incorporated in the car is from Audi A6. I will mention the followings:
- Fuel stratified injection engine great on gas
- 6 speed auto with manual and Sport program, most advanced in class. It change the gears a lot faster than the new Camry 6 speed auto. Not too mention that this is a Tiptronic.
- Huge discs brakes compared with the other cars in class.
- Active safety: Stability control (ESP), Brake Assist System (BAS), Anti-slip regulation (ASR), Electronic Differencial Lock (EDL)
- No hydraulic power steering like in BMW 5 series
- 8 airbags
After more than one year free of any issues I still have a lot of fun driving the car. I am very happy with it and it has great utility as a station wagon. The design and the fit and finish are amazing for this class. The attention to detail is great. Every small feature is well designed and created. It is umbelievable but there are about 120 features not so common.
The car deserve a special consideration. Please read about the tehnology incorporated in the car then go for a test drive and you'll see why I'm so excited....read morehide

- Performance, looks, qulaity
- Ugly wheels, no radio channel presets on steering wheel
Unbelievable that the steering wheel radio channel selection button only scrolls through all channels, and not your preselected channels. Unexpected limitation on a car of this standard?? This alone reason for me to change cars as soon as possible.

- Overwhelmingly dissatisfying experience for us
My husband and I had considered ourselves Volkswagen loyalists until we came into an unfortunate arrangement through our decision to purchase a 2007 Passat Wagon. We have made several trips to our local dealership (Fairfax VW) to have the problems solved, but we keep coming back. We've decided we're wasting our time and put the car up for sale. We confirmed our instinct that the Passat is a product unworthy of our troubles by witnessing the huge number of 07's with lower miles on them that have been put up for sale.
We have had the usual problems (radio, rattles and shudders and thuds, wobbly steering) and then some (bad ground wire, deteriorating interior finishes and components that one wouldn't expect after 9 months of use).
I am fed up with Fairfax and with VW and will never buy or lease a Volkswagen again....read morehide

- good lines and room
- many electrical problems, engine problem and the known suspension problem
I leased an 07 3.6l wagon as a company car and wanted to report to those looking for such a car that you may want to look elsewhere.
I have had loads of problems from the minor annoyances (dashboard lights cutting on and off) to a couple of major problems (head blown with 3,000 miles and suspension replaced though faulty by design). I also do not want to forget the wretched radio/stereo they put in these vehicles. I am not a hardcore rocker but the reception is terrible, even listening to the local news report on the radio. Listening to a CD doesn't get much better.
I am displeased with the manner in which VW of America has handled my concerns in a letter I wrote to them. I harbor nothing against them. I am a white collar professional and in my business letters are returned and responded to. It's been 3 months and still have not received a response from VW.
When I leased the car, I considered the idea of purchasing it off-lease. I have revised my plans due to the myriad problems I have experienced with only 8,000 miles on the clock. I do not think my car is an isolated problem car as there seem to be many users here who have shared similar experiences both in wagon and sedan form.
Bottom line: Don't waste your time or your money...read morehide
