2008 Volkswagen Passat Wagon User Reviews
- $10,467 - $15,785
- Well designed, good handling, fun to drive
- occasional warning light errors
This is my second Passat and 7th VW overall... By far the best yet.
The 2.0L Turbo engine really shines, even with the added weight of the variant (Wagon) body. The suspension offers a comfortable ride, not plush by any means, but not as jarring as the sport tuned suspension package.
Interior room was a selling point for this car. More back seat legroom than most sedans and wagons of it class. With rear seats folded down, the cargo area becomes quite spacious.
Fuel economy is good, depending on driving style. On board computer averages have shown average mileage for my daily 35 mile commute range from 24 to 36mpg (mostly highway driving)....read morehide

- Ride handling, Fuel economy, Great design
- Rattling,Wind noise, unreliability
I have owned my 07' passat wagon for the past 24 months. Initially the car was great for about a week before the trips to the dealership started. This car has one of the worst reliability for the amount it costs to own one. Let me list all the problems that I have encountered.
a) Screw loose behind the CD player, trip to dealer.
b) Rear passenger door seals broke and started rattling.
c) Sunroof slider rattles. Problem broken slider shipped.
d) Left driver door seals broke
e) driver door seals broke
f) Front passenger door seals broke
g) Rear ac vents rattle
h) 2 safety recalls
i) All of the door rubber seals now creak and groan during slow speeds
j) The entire front panel has rattles on and off
This car is nothing but trouble. To add insult to injury I have to pay for service to fix the rattles. If you would like to get carried away with performance and looks and throw you money away this is the car for you. If not steer clear and go look for something else....read morehide

- Fuel economy(premium fuel), door piller location for tall drivers, fit and finish.
Paint on this 2008 noy nearly as good as my 2003. Noticed under the hood that the paint is dull and not clear coated like it was on my 2008. Many more openings is sheet metal and not as tight as my 2003 VW Passat. Makes me kind of sorry that I traded my 2003, it was a much better made auto. My 2003 felt like a much more expensive european car than this one. Exterior paint was nicer and interior materials were better on the 03. looks like some corporate suits had the boys at the factory cut as many corners as they could to make more profits. I really thought VW was above doing that....read morehide

- Good looking car, decent MPG, interior room
- Poor reliability - lots of problems
Our Passat Wagon 2.0 Turbo has been towed back to the dealer four times. Four times, really. It has stalled while we were going 60 mph on the freeway, twice. It has stalled in the middle of intersections. Three weeks ago it died while going up a hill, a huge grinding sound and boom, dead. Towed back to the dealer. That time? The entire air conditioning system died and disabled the car. We've had nothing but problems with this car. It's unreliable, plain and simple. Our suspension has also gone out as the other reviewer denoted....read morehide

- Simply the best
- Sometimes to slow
My previous Passat made 398.000 km. And on the end I still sold it for very good price. Only driver seat were a little bit teared.
Before pasat I owned VW Bora / Jetta and I made in three years 144.000 km.
Now I have new Passat Variant 4 motion and I made in one year 60.000 km.
Everything is perfect I have change only one electric bulb for side light in front lamp.
When I have a bussines trip to Gemany than I miss a 40 - 50 HP more and could be also end speed higher. Last time I hardly reached 215 km/h measure with navigation system....read morehide

- My feul consumption rate has been even better than I imagined.
- Not much to complain about.
My business calls for me to drive alot. As a matter of fact sometimes a 1,000 miles a week. I am getting above & beyond my expectations on the mpg. It turns heads when I pass through intesctions. The wagon has been a hit with both older & younger peoples opinions. I had to give up my 2001 passat wagon with 250,000 miles & boy am I glad I did. It is always hard to take on a new car payment but it is money worth spending, especially on myself. There is nothing I dislike about my new Passat wagon. Drive one see for yourself, then do something good for yourself & buy one.
Have fun!...read morehide

- Good fuel economy, reliable, great-looking car
- a bit of turbo lag
We love this wagon! We also own a Passat sedan and will definitely stick with VW in the future. The feel of this car is comparable to that of a much pricier luxury vehicle. It's solid and handles great, especially around corners. I know there have been complaints about the reliability of this model, but our 2007 has 35,000 miles and no major problems to note!...read morehide

- @ 85mph I'm getting 31mpg highway - excellent handling - gobs of room
- brakes can be a bit rough - door pocket is smaller than I prefer
I just traded my VW Treg for a Passat wagon. The Treg weighs about 6,000 pounds, the wagon 2.0T about half that. The Passat is quicker, better handling, has ungodly mileage compared with what i am used to, costs me $150 a month less and carries as much stuff as the Treg did, in a car which is very handsome but does not have the over-the-top ego as the Treg. This also will not cost me a house payment for brakes, $1200 per year for tires or $150 every time I want an oil change.
Overall, it's been a stellar choice and a genuine improvement - for the $26,500 I paid for this car I could not be happier....read morehide
