- This is not affordable
It is a nice car, and it is luxurious and all the amenities. It is more expensive than a Cadillac Deville. Don't let the name fool you!

- Perfect !
I love this car ! Owned a Passat and couldn't wait until the Phaeton came out !
We have three VW's, a 2006 GTI, 2005 Touareg and the Phaeton, love them all.
This car is low profile, not flashy, certainly not a status symbol. But talk about getting noticed !

- smooth ride, good handling for big sedan, great power, good mpg for size of car,
- computer messages in error on occasion (esp tire pressure),
A really wonderful car. This automobile is smooth, quiet, understated, but very luxurious. The only real downside is the name of the car for those concerned with that. The ride is not as isolated as an S class Mercedes but is really nice none the less. It handles very well with flat cornering. The interior is very nice but not flashy. The only problem with the car from my view is it is has some user interface issues for ancillary controls. For instance, it requires you to push the button on every start up to accept the warnings and then push a second time to "continue". A bit irritating. The window controls for the front window are too far forward and too close to the fuel filler release for comfort.
Don't know if I would buy new at 80 - 100K but I bought used at ~$45K and THAT is an absolute steal for a vehicle of this quality and size....read morehide

- QUIET-SOLID RIDE- RIDES BETTER THAN ANY OTHER FINE GERMAN I EVER OWNED.
- NOW AND THEN I GET FAULTY MESSAGES FROM THE COMPUTER, BUT ARE CORRECTED WHEN I RESTART THE CAR.
VOLKSWAGEN IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S LEADING BRANDS, AND THIS CAR IS WHAT WAS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THEIR CAR LINEUP.
MY WIFE OWNS A NEW PASSAT AND IS GREAT BUT I NEEDED A LUXURY SEDAN, AND THE PHAETON SURELY FULLFILLED ALL MY EXPECTATIONS.
LOOKS, PERFORMANCE, COMFORT, AND SPECIALLY INTERIOR SPACE.
JUST LOVE IT....read morehide

- excellent ride, vaultlike interior, coddles passangers and driver
- if pushed hard can guzzle the premium gasoline
If you do the work and negotiate hard with dealers (let then know about the laws of supply and demand) you can get the deal of a liftime on a handbuilt luxury car. I purchased mine on 8/2005 in washington state and shipped it to NJ. I purchased a New 2004 left over which stickered over $71,000 for the bargain basement price of $51,000. I know all your VW dealers will hate me. I know I only own it 8 months but the car has been flawless a real quality product. 2 people I know have leased the car after a short ride in my car. The worst part is the Nav system is a little slow and does not have individual street names. If product quality is more important than a marquis nameplate then this is the car for you...read morehide
