- City mileage, Bizarre Engineered Features
I have had my 2007 Rabbit for nine months. It shines on the interstate with terrific power, a smooth ride and great mileage. (I average 32 mpg highway.) It irritates in the city with mileage as low as 18 mpg, although it averages around 23. My old 4-cylinder SUV got those figures or better! Build quality is equal or better to a Mercedes-Benz I once owned. The sound system is great and the ride is supple and never tires the occupants.
Vaunted German engineering does not make sense with windows one cannot raise if someone opens a door first (a safety feature?), and water rushing into the cabin when it rains after you lower the windows (no catch sill on top of the door.) Plus, the B-pillars are especially thick and inhibit viewing to the rear. Plus, VW service is very $$$$$$.
Overall, great value for the money...yet, a Rabbit is like a quirky , old aunt you grow to love even though she drives you nuts from time-to-time.
