- the appearance is nice
- oil changes $100.00, too many electrical problems
This is the worst car I have ever owned. The first week I bought the truck, my steering wheel began to shake. Next, my brakes were scrubbing and I was told that this was a MFG defect that had to be recalled and replaced. Then, within a month my speakers began to rattle, The dealership told me that nothing was wrong with my speakers. Not even a month later My speakers blew out, which caused my radio to blow, then everything electrical in the car went out including my windshield wipers. The dealer kept my car for 29days and stated that it was fixed. Couple of weeks later the same problem happened. Also, I had to purchase a tire that cost 200.00 because of mfg defect. Not to mention that VW customer care is not helpful at all. They just transfer you back and forward to the dealer. PLEASE DO NOT BUY A 2005 VW......read morehide

- great SUV,love this car, think of getting a second one for wife.
- MPG.had a few issues, but they were fixed by dealer at no cost
Had a strage leak, but fixed, had a fog light go bad, fixed by dealer, the dash wood trim cracked, but fixed by dealer. Overall, great car , just can't get the right seat position, but that is probably me.

- Excellent road handling, nice 6 gear aut/tiptronic shift, good looking car
- Small spare tire, leatherette driving seat craked after 10'000 miles, not enough HP for the V6
While an excellent looking car and as the driving comfort is excellent, there is not enough HP in the V6 version. Also the ridiculous small spare tyre should not be made for such a car.

- styling, turning radius, seating position, comfort
- shifting, quality/reliability, wipers
Seduced by its looks I bought a base model Touareg V6 early this year. 8,000 miles later I report:
(+) Looks are still great (personal opinion). Base model leatherette seats are quite comfortable, allow for low seating position (passenger car - like), and deal with the realities of baby travel (occasional spills) without getting damaged.
(-) Shifting - VW got the shifting points in the "drive" (D) mode wrong. There is not enough torque in a V6. BUT there is a solution - "sport" (S) mode. I did not notice a significant change in fuel consumption and the (S) mode is not perfect for highway speeds (stays too long in the 4th gear), but in city driving it is a perfect solution. Reliability - lots was written and although my T. was at the dealer for its 1st scheduled service only I am a bit weary of the car's qulity. It used to have a shimmy at 65mph (diagnosed as tire flat spots after extended time on dealer's lot), but it also has a "suspicious" sound coming out of gearbox/differential (?). Wipers cause me some frustration. The rattling sound that some mentioned, went away, but at highway speeds there is a patch of "dirt" in driver's field of vision that forms when wiper returns back down. Also - the rain sensing feature is flawed. Mine must be sensing rain conditions in a different state. Occasionally it is too fast, other times too slow. I wish there was a manual override.
To summarize: I would buy it again but spend more time test driving listening for anything suspicious and negotiate sub-invoice price....read morehide

- Interior comfort
- Recalls recalls recalls, horrible service, $100 oil changes, weak v6 and bad gas mileage
Way to go VW. I will never buy another of your cars again. I shudder to think what is going to go wrong next. Mine is a 2004

- Great Luxary Features
- Shifts to early into higher gears
Great car, BUT the shifting really hurts the car. So bad that I am actually thinking of trading it in. While driving the car it automatically shifts to high gears at very low RPM's which makes it fustrating to drive at some points. If interested in buying please test drive on a open road and get a good feel of how the car shifts....read morehide

- Massive comfort and luxury with this SUV.
- V6 is a bit whimpy when going on highway and with 5 adults, gas mileage is in the toilet
My wife and I had a child and we needed more room than our Passat had to offer. We went and shopped the SUV market and liked what we saw most in the Touareg. My wife did not want to take a step back in comfort and believe me, we took a HUGE step forward in comfort. Our first trip out of town, the Touareg worked wonders and everything was so much easier....read morehide

can't keep it on the road - has been in the shop for defect repairs over 45 days of the 640 days we have owned it. Horrible.
