The 2006 Touareg is a 4-door, 5-passenger luxury sport-utility, available in 3 trims, ranging from the V6 to the V10 TDI. The 2006 Touareg's closest competitors include the Acura MDX, the Land Rover Range Rover, and the Volvo XC90.
Upon introduction, the V6 is equipped with a standard 3.2-liter, V6, 240-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 21-mpg on the highway. The V10 TDI is equipped with a standard 5.0-liter, V10, 310-horsepower, turbo, diesel engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 23-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
