You need to read this before purchasing any Volkswagen automobile:
In my personal opinion, based on my personal experience, Volkswagen customer service is terrible!
We bought a 2004 Toureg (the first year the Toureg was on the market). It has some kind of electrical defect that causes the battery to go dead and the car will not start.
It has happened twice in the last month to us now. They do not seem to know why it is happening.
Worse has been the customer service. We've experienced a lot of OUR own out-of-pocket expenses due to this situation. We asked them to bring the car back to us because we feel this is a warranty problem (and has been addressed as such), but they refuse to even do that for us!
Overall, the Volkswagen employees have been rude and unhelpful and act like they do not care about their customers once the sale has been completed.
In my honest opinion, and experience, do not buy a Volkswagen. You are very likely to get a car that will have problems and customer service, at both the dealer and corporate level, will not care about you when it happens.
Volkswagen's bottom line is the dollar, not their customers.
If you buy a Volkswagen, beware....read morehide

- Great ride.....nice looks.......Gas milage better than most SUV's
- Price.......Brake dust........Parts if you need something repaired
Sure hope my "06" does better than my "04". The "04" was in the service department for the check engine light coming on more than it was on the road.

- Good Looks, nice interior beats cayenne.
- too many trips to the gas station
Bought a 2004 with 8K miles. Very statisfied. I was highly impressed with the interior. Looked at XC90 and RX330. This was far better and much more car for the money.
Advice: If you are in Chicago area, do not go to The Autobarn Limited - Mt Prospect. Bad attitute, worst service. They don't care about customers....read morehide

- Very solid car, safe, the V8 is a blast to drive and comes well a long list of standard equipement
- Better GPS with integrated bluetooth.
This is our second Touareg. The first being a 04 V8. There seemed to be a list of small bugs in the first model year vehicles but all those have been ironed out. Great can for on-road and off-road.

- solid great suspension fit and finish extordinaire
- not a brand name SUV
If you can't feild questions about why did you buy this or that then think twice about the Touareg. It is the most vehicle feature for feature you can get in an SUV. A beautiful cabin inside makes a Range Rover seem comparable. An extemely capable air suspension that is virtually identical to Land Rover's extremely capable suspension. Styling that is vastly more tasteful than any other German or Asian offering. Available V8 if you must spend more on fuel. It may say VW on the grill but you could not drive anything better in this catagory....read morehide

- Extremely luxurious, BMW / Mercedes Beater!,Excellent acceleration, Folks at Clear Lake VW were exce
- 18 mpg on the highway - gas guzzler
I purchased my VW Touareg V8 after doing a lot of research and testing all the competitors (MB ML 350, Landrover LR3, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 V8). The Touareg impressed me the most with the excellent handling (you can do 60mph round a tight bend and feel totally in control), excellent handling, superb V8 engine, lots of cool technology and excellent VW customer service - Of late, VW have taken a real hit with the customer service, but they must have learned, because the service I received was exemplary. I only have 600 miles on the clock, but it must be said that the VW drives like a dream. My only minor complaint would be the use of too much technology - The front and rear sensors are excellent, but can cause nervousness at times, as they go off even when you are 3ft away from an object! The only other thing would be the gas mileage, which is actually better than the XC 90 V8....read morehide

- it passes everything except a gas station
- brakes squeek sometimes
i do have some electrical glitches, but for the money i couldn't pass this vehicle up. it can tow, it's fast as hell, and it's very powerful. i almost bought the cayenne, but i'm glad i didn't because the cayenne is basicly the same vehicle with a high price tag. i'll tell anyone save your money don't buy the cayenne, check the touareg v8 out....read morehide

- Best styled SUV, Responsive smooth ride, new GPS works great, impressive off-road, nice gadgets
- Typical German brake dust(aftermarket wheel treatments help), 14-18 MPG
I had an 04, now I have the 06. VW has addressed the imperfections from 04. The Touareg is a great all-purpose SUV with great styling ad appointments, fun to drive yet very comfortable for longer trips. The new GPS system works really well as does the new Parking Assist and rear camera which were included on the 06. So far, so wonderful....read morehide

- Enormous torque from the V10, I4 fuel economy, Mercedes class interior, lot of ctronics to play with
This TDI V10 is the best engine I've ever seen in this class. It has as much torque as those Full-ize pickup diesels. Yet being a lot more fuel efficient. The interio is genuine with very generous wood, leather, chrome appointments. Electronics like air suspension are fun to play with. If you are gettin a Touareg, get the V10, it might be more expensive but the money you'll save on fuel will catch up to it soon....read morehide
