2006 Volkswagen Touareg

- Terrific handling, drives almost like a sports car. Interior very well designed.
- Fuel Economy, parts very expensive and no Third row.
I've been leasing my 2004 Touareg for 2 years ago and I'm thoroughly pleased with its performance and reliability. When my lease expires, I would consider purchasing a new Touareg if it weren't for my need to have a third-row. Before leasing, I tested the BMW X5, Highlander, 4Runner and Volvo XC90. You get better handling and more value out of a Touareg....read morehide

- Great looking SUV, well equipped
- Overstated gas mileage, slightly under-powered but not terrible
I just picked my V6 (package 1) last week and I am very impressed with it. You get the most vehicle for your money compared to other vehicles in it's class. It seems to be very well built and handles surprisingly well. I have been a BMW owner for the last 10 years (including an x5) and I think the Touareg is right up there in quality. Volkswagen has come a long way and the Touareg is a fine example. I am very pleased. The one improvement that I would make is more power from the V6 and from what I understand that will be done at the end of the 06 model year....read morehide

- Great beautiful style for a SUV with flowing soft lines. Fantastic interior.
- Overstated gas mileage, brake dust on wheels and trans shifts into 4th before you hit 25mph.
This is a great German SUV. Fit and finish does not get any better. I bought the top of the line (package 4) with nav system, leather and and everything but the air shocks. It's unbeleivable how many features the vehicle has.
A couple of things I just can't figure out.... 1) It has a roof rack. It has the rails to mount the crossbars but in o6 you do not get the cross bars??? 2) I have a trailer hitch, but no place to plug the trailer elect into..no plug mounted on the vehicle. The service people told me that was because they didn't know what type of plug on the trailer to match it to?? I think that's what adaptors are for. Also the hitch does not come with a receiver and ball. Why have a hitch if you have no way to tow the trailer and no way to hook up the lights. The German engineers have built a great vehicle here, but I think they have missed the boat on the roof rack and hitch.
I almost didn't buy the Touareg when I drove the V6. Seemed very underpowered on take off. Was OK after 50 mph. It's a 6 speed auto trans and it takes a little getting used to. I couldn't see paying another $8,000 for a V8. I test drove it for a day and overnight. I got used to it and how to drive a 6 speed auto trans. It's just not a jack rabbit on the take off like my 04 4Runner, but my 4Runner was not a luxury SUV like the Touaerg. Other choices.....BMW X5. MDX, Navigator and Mercedes SUV. It all come down to fit and finish and price. Touareg won hands down. It's a lot of luxury SUV for the price and very off road capable....read morehide

- Great riding car, nice interior and plenty of cargo space
- The electrical system and the check engine light!!!
I totally loved my '04 when I pursed it 7 months ago. The car handled like a jewel and I loved the look of the interior.
Now I am so frustrated! I have made 5 trips to the dealership in the last six months for check engine lights, tire pressure monitoring systems and now a dead battery (twice in 8 days). I cannot express how disappointed I am in this car!!! I truly hope my tribulations will soon be over. I cannot believe I traded my Volvo for this!!...read morehide

- Great ride.....nice looks.......Gas milage better than most SUV's
- Price.......Brake dust........Parts if you need something repaired
Sure hope my "06" does better than my "04". The "04" was in the service department for the check engine light coming on more than it was on the road.

- Good Looks, nice interior beats cayenne.
- too many trips to the gas station
Bought a 2004 with 8K miles. Very statisfied. I was highly impressed with the interior. Looked at XC90 and RX330. This was far better and much more car for the money.
Advice: If you are in Chicago area, do not go to The Autobarn Limited - Mt Prospect. Bad attitute, worst service. They don't care about customers....read morehide

- solid great suspension fit and finish extordinaire
- not a brand name SUV
If you can't feild questions about why did you buy this or that then think twice about the Touareg. It is the most vehicle feature for feature you can get in an SUV. A beautiful cabin inside makes a Range Rover seem comparable. An extemely capable air suspension that is virtually identical to Land Rover's extremely capable suspension. Styling that is vastly more tasteful than any other German or Asian offering. Available V8 if you must spend more on fuel. It may say VW on the grill but you could not drive anything better in this catagory....read morehide
