- Knowing your model by VIN number
As everyone has stated on here, love or hate this vehicle you have to admire it as a class act. I love my 2004 V8 but would love to get a V10 eventually. As for repairs, yes this is a issue cause my model was a first year production. However, if you read up on the VW Forum boards you will learn that by looking at your VIN number you get a break down of the 1st half production and 2nd half production. What you will notice is all the 1st half year productions were plagued with problems and I would AVOID. However, a lot of issues were corrected for the 2nd half of the year production models. Something I seriously checked before buying mine. Another suggestion, the V6 you can't really appreciate the power of this vehicle but I'm sure the V10 guys can say that about me. However, make sure you get the 12-Seat adjustment not the standard 8-Seat adjustment. Really much more comfortable. I drove this puppy up from NY to Toronto (2x) last summer - I really had an new love for this vehicle after that trip. Cruised at 140/mph up there with a Ranger Rover (he had supercharge), when I told him I was stock - he was SHOCKED!!! Also a 3-Series BMW tried to keep - it was sad......read morehide

- Handling, Overall Performance, Off road capability
- Fuel economy, Poor Quality Trim(finish tend to where out)void after warranty
Numerous visit to the Dealership(Ancira, San Antonio,Tx). 4x4 system broke x2, Trim pieces fell off, Weather Stripping worn, Cd player has a mind of its own, confusing LCD computer, roof rack paint peeling off or fading... What piss me off the most is VW spoke person stating that the "quality that VW stand by" was full of S..T!!! I had all the inside trim peeling off and the black "coating" peeled off and looked more like holes everywhere. I had 60,000 and void all manaf warr. And the answer was from VW HQ. My recommendation is steer away from touareg-VW/ceyenne-Porsche/ Q7-Audi....read morehide

- Fuel economy is not good. I average city/highway 13-17 mpg.
- If you're going to own a TOUAREG V-8 do not get into an accident.Parts come from Germany.
I currently own a 2006, TOURAREG V-8, and 1-month ago today was involved in an accident, and I am still waiting for parts to fix it. The body shop I have it at told me there are a handfull of cars that are not worth owning. The reason, getting the parts takes forever. Although my car didn't have too much damage, it had enough, and after 4-weeks of waiting for parts I will NEVER buy a VW-TOUAREG again.
The sad part is, this is the best car I have ever owned, and I have had Mercedes, and BMW. The next time around it's going to be a LEXUS....read morehide

- NAVI system not that user friendly,Fuel economy is poor though

- fast, handles well
- electrical issues, design issues, subpar dealers, mileage
as others have pointed out, the touareg has serious electrical issues
since the battery is under the front seat, you need to get a tow when inevitably the battery runs down, this is incredibly bad design
the mileage is terrible, i am sure this is obvious to anyone buying it
vw dealers are also not in the league of legit "high end" dealers, you will pay $60k for the vehicle but not get the level of service you would expect...read morehide

- Full of useful gadgets and built like a tank!
- Fuel economy and max hitch weight
More power to VW! After a disappointing 2004 model with many faults, VW produces an award winning monster that puts a smile on my face every day. The extra 40 ponies and torque are great for towing heavier loads. You have to drive one to believe the performance! GREAT CAR VW!

- No better SUV in the snow, great ride, great handling, very roomy
- expensive oil changes, tires, poor gas mileage, electrical issues
Love this car, even the small issues cannot deter you from loving to drive and own this fine automobile. True VW lovers will appreciate its ride and german styling. If you're willing to fork over some cash, the V8 has power, great handling, and every amenity you need.

- THE BEST SUV IN ITS CLASS AS IT HAS BEATEN THE BIG NAMES
- BIG NAMES CAR BRANDS NOT BIG IN DAKAR RALLY; TOUAREG'S BIG
THE REVIEWS HERE ARE IDIOTIC AS FAR AS, THEY PROTECT BIG NAMES THAT SHOULD BE EXPOSED FOR THEIR FALSE PRETENSES IN ADVERTISEMENTS. TOUAREG WON THE DAKAR AND BEAT LANDCRUISER, BMW AND LANDROVER. SEE THE WEBSITE "DAKAR RALLY" AND LET ME PROVE MY POINT!
