- Very roomy interior, extremely comfortable ride and fair gas mileage.
- My only con is that there is not a built in place for my garage door opener to be programmed.
Overall, I love this car! It was a gift to me from my new husband, he had just traded in his Porsche 968 cabriolet for my fully loaded Volvo.
At first, he was having buyers remorse, but now he loves the car as much as I do. It handles so well in the snow, the heated seats work great in the cold weather, we love that we have all of the many premium upgrade packages that this car was offered with.
My mother was driving with me and she said that this is the most comfortable car that she has ever been in, in her life! Maybe she will think about trading in that Honda Accord afterall!
The trunk is huge! And in the cabin of the car, there is really alot of head room, my husband is 6'1" and is comfortable, and elbow to elbow, you do not bump into each other either! We love it!...read morehide

- AWD, performance/handling, ride quality and interior layout
- none so far
Bought it 3 mo ago from a local dealer as a demo, had 6k mi on it and came with the climate, premium and audio package. It now has 12k on it and I haven't had any problem with it. The handling and performance are fantastic (not like my Vette) but after driving it through the recent ice/snow storm here I wouldn't trade it for anything else. If you're looking for an everyday driver that's comfortable, handles well and has some giddy up and go I'd recomment you check it out. I looked at the Audi, BMW and Mercedes competitors and decided that for the money this was the best....read morehide

- Stylish, drives great
This is my first Volvo and I am loving it. I got the 2006, 2.4i with automatic transmission. Everything about this car is just beautiful. I believe it beats BMW with a big margin and for a lower price. It drives smoothly both in town and on the highway. Its fuel consumption is also great. I would recommend it to all my friends and family who are in the market for a great car. Buy it and you won't regret it....read morehide

- Outstanding Fuel Economy, Great Looks, Good Performance and Handling
- Gas Pedal takes Getting Used to at Launch
This is actually the second S40 I've owned, with the first being a 2.4i. We initially traded the 2.4i in for a larger XC70. In the end we still missed the S40, but wanted more power this time and opted for the T5 as a second car. Both S40 versions are excellent vehicles and are quite comparable to the A4 and 335/328i but cost quite a bit less. The T5 makes a good bit of power for a smaller sport sedan. It is a taller car for its size yet still has good road grip. If you don't constantly flog the turbo, you can get exceptional gas mileage. I get around 26MPG in mixed driving and about 30-32MPG on the highway depending on traffic condition at about 70MPH. The service and warranty are excellent, but I haven't needed anything but regular service so far. The car kind of has a 3-series look if you are considering a BMW but don't want to pay the price....read morehide

- Nice appearance, good fuel economy, good handeling
- Multiple maintanence issues!!
I first bought the 2004 1/2 S40 and I spent more time in a loaner car because mine was always in the shop. I was then upgraded to a 2005 and although there were less issues....there are still issues. My radio changes channels in it's own, my ignition had to be replaced and I recently had a problem with the security system and could not lock the care with the key. For the price I would expect a more reliable car....read morehide

- Comfy seats, great handling
- No mp3 support, average gas mileage
I had been a bit leary about switching from an SUV back to a sedan ... too many crazy drivers, but after a trip to the dealership and the reputation Volvo has for safety I was convinced. The #1 selling point for the car was the handling. The salesman who took me for a test drive used to be a driving instructor and gave this car everything she could take. The test drive was FUN! The only cons are minor things, no support for auxiliary mp3 players, though the 2007 model has this I believe. Gas mileage is nothing spectacular around town ... barely 24, but on the expressway it picks up to 32 which is great, especially since my SUV only got 16. Its a very well built and has great styling. The T-Tec looks great and cleans up in a snap....read morehide

- Great fuel economy, very comfortable, safe
I am very pleased with my 2006 Volvo S40 2.4i. I do miss some of the power of my last car being a 2002 New Beetle Turbo but the room and the comfort make up for the difference. My car was a dealer demo so I didn't get to custom order it but I saved a good deal of money and it was still rather loaded to include the climate control package and the package that has the premium sound system that sounds awesome. The Volvo is the most comfortable riding car I have ever riden in. The seats are so comfortable and that is very important to me since I have a bad back because of an injury that I had while in the military. My next car will be a Volvo but I plan to drive this one for a while. I might let my children drive it when they are old enough to drive and I'll get me a C70 if they are still available....read morehide

- Nice car in all respects; handles well; pretty sporty (turbo)
- Sound system lacks aux port
This is a great car. It is on the small side so it is definitely not a family hauler but as long as you are not trying to put 3 kids in the back for long stretches or haul large amounts of luggage etc, it is perfect. It looks and feels pretty luxurious. It is fun to drive and quite a bit more sporty than the Volvo safety first mantra would suggest. There is no turbo lag and acceleration, especially from a dead stop, is surprisingly impressive. Given its short wheel base, it does ride a little choppy at times on rough pavement but on a good road it is as smooth as silk. Gas milage is great.
The only negative I have is the sound system. Audiophiles need to think twice about the S40. It sounds great but the system lacks an aux port for an iPod. It also provides no way to add XM radio without using a portible unit and an FM modulator. (Volvo offers Sirius but it is a ridiculously expensive option). The radio is very unique and there are no aftermarket products available to work around these limitations nor can you replace the radio with an aftermarket one. Having to go back to listening to my iPod through an FM modulator is the only reason I did not give the S40 5 stars....read morehide
