- Pros
- Best SUV we have owned
- Cons
- For a 7 seater, it is a bit small. DVD breaks easily.
Purchased As New
We have had ours for 7 years and 80,000 miles. We have had a Pathfinder, Grand Cherokee, Disco Series II and a Range Rover and this by far is the best SUV we have had. Other than the DVD player breaking 3 times the vehicle has been trouble free.
I will say, stay away from the T6. It has a GM transmission that can not handle the power of the turbo 6 and will break down. The best set up is the V8 with the 6 speed. We did not know it at the time but both are Yamaha built. We got lucky as we were going to get the T6 but ours was a demo and a great deal....read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Excellent highway cruiser, great looking car, and its safe
- Cons
- Bluetooth integration, leather quality, and stereo features
Purchased As New
We bought this SUV because my wife really wanted it. We bought it new in June 2005. It is loaded, with rear entertainment system, navigation, premium stereo, parking sensors, 3rd row seating etc. We now have 37k miles and it still feels solid. Besides the fact that Volvo is quite backward with technology (poor bluetooth integration, no stereo inputs), and poor leather quality, it is a really nice comfortable car....read morehide

- Pros
- Great gas mileage for a V8
- Cons
- None yet!
I purchased a 2005 XC90 V8 in Nov '05. I have almost 3K miles on it now and have driven it almost daily and have taken it on a long drive (6 hrs). The drive to PHX from SoCal was great, the power was there when I needed it on the stretch of 10 freeway. I also drove it on a trip to our local mountains and was able to use the geartronic transmission. Needless to say a fun drive! I have not regretted the purchase of this vehicle at all. I also did my research before pulling the trigger on this vehicle and test drove the Lexus RX330, Mercedes ML350, and BMW X5. I feel the power and performance and luxury outclassed the others in terms of value. Besides, my Volvo dealer actually "dealt" with me unlike the MB dealer. The only thing I would suggest changing on this vehicle is automatic locks. As mentioned in previous review, the plastic part on the passenger door handle did fall off and the closure on the cup holder tends to stick. I took it back to the dealer and they were replaced w/out a problem....read morehide

- Pros
- Beautiful styling, plenty of power, smooth as silk, easy to use features.
- Cons
- No compass.
Bought the 2005 V8 in Fort Collins, Colorado while on vacation and drove it back to Illinois. Traded in a Subaru XT (too small and tinny). Previously owned a Touareg, which was the worst car I have ever owned. I love the power and convenient features of the XC90, and my wife loves the looks, ease of use, and safety features. Car is very quiet and easy to handle. Gets second looks in the parking lot....read morehide

- Pros
- 7 seat design, navigation, safety
- Cons
- terrible gas mileage, Volvo Nth Scottsdale customer service
I bought this car because it was supposed to be good on gas and was incredibly safe and convenient - 7 seats.
I was right in the later, it is very comfortable, the 3rd row is great and leaves luggage room in the very rear, the kids are happy and safe, it is great to drive ... however it is under powered (2.5) and it uses way too much gas. The factory testers must do something radically different to me as I dont get close to the published gas mileage they claim
now for Volvo Nth Scottsdale - THEY ARE DREADFUL, RUDE WITH OUT DOUBT THE WORST DEALERSHIP EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER SUFFERED THROUGH. So if you live in the Phoenix area what ever you do find an alternative dealer, these guys are not deserving of your business
cheers...read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Great Looking Vehicle Inside and Out. Very Roomy
- Cons
- Too Many Issues that Volvo can't resolve.
Previously had a 2004 XC90 T6. The brakes always made a loud screeching noise when backing up but Volvo could insisted it was a normal. Purchased a 2005 XC90 V8 in August. There is a funny humming noise from under the hood that can be heard in the car over music being played. When turning steering makes a screeching noise. I'm heading back to the Volvo dealership tomorrow as my Check Engine light is on for the 4th time. To make matters worse I finally had to use my heater only to find out it doesn't work and only blows out cold air. Had to use seat warmers as heater on trip to Ventura. I've only the car 4 months. I've very disappointed and thinking about getting rid of it if feasible and going with the BMW X5. I want a car that doesn't give me worry when on the road....read morehide

- Pros
- Great looking car
- Cons
- Transmission / engine troubles
I've had nothing but trouble with my 2003 Volvo XC90 T6 AWD since I bought it. First was the emergency break sticking. Then it the whole turbo was replaced. Now the transmission has been replaced and the check engine light has come on again. Since arriving in Hawaii in September 2005, my XC90 has been in the shop more than it's been out. It's been in the shop about 6 of the 8 weeks I've been here, and it's going back again tomorrow. I would NOT recommend this car for ANYBODY. DON'T BUY IT. IT'S NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE....read morehide
