There’s no doubt about it, the love of cars can draw a family closer together if done properly. We know some non-gearheads think us enthusiasts just care about the machines and not people, but the fact is the vehicles can act as a bond between friends and family. This story of how a son was able to recreate his dad’s beloved classic Pontiac Firebird and gift it to him is a perfect example.

Five decades ago, Julio saved his pennies and bought a Pontiac Firebird he cherished. However, one day when he was leaving to go to work in the morning, he found someone stole the vehicle. That sinking feeling must have been overwhelming, but what stuck with him was the loss of the car.

After getting married and having a family, Julio’s adult son, Josh, found out about the devastating loss of the Firebird. Mining his dad for information about the muscle car’s specs, he set out to recreate one just like it.

Josh found an old Firebird that needed some TLC, perfect for customizing even the smallest details. He went through the painstaking process of recreating his dad’s old ride inside and out, a labor of love he knew would put a smile on the man’s face.

Rather than just roll up to this dad’s house in the Pontiac Firebird, he decided to reveal it in an even more creative way. The two attended a classic car show together and Josh had the muscle car on display.

As soon as his dad saw it he immediately started admiring the Pontiac. Looking it over, the man was amazed at how it was just like the one he owned before someone swiped it. He had to talk to the owner, perhaps to see if the guy was willing to sell the vehicle. But when he looked on the card to see who that owner was, Julio saw his name.

And that’s when what his son had done hit him. This is how the love of cars can draw a father and son closer.
