12-Year-Old Allegedly Steals Jaguar, Crashes Into Audi Dealer, Takes Ice Cream
A set of luxury car dealerships in Rockville, Maryland has reportedly fallen victim to an unexpected criminal mastermind last week: a 12-year-old boy who police say has established a pattern of break-ins.
According to local news source ABC 7 and Automotive News, the juvenile managed to break into the Jaguar Land Rover dealership on Rockville Pike on Thursday, August 29, grabbing the keys to a Jaguar and reportedly driving away with the stolen vehicle. Before he left the dealership, however, police reported that the young person grabbed a few candy bars from the showroom. Police say the 12-year-old also made his way to the Audi dealership, where he allegedly destroyed a bay door with a stolen car — before helping himself to ice cream from a courtesy freezer.
Notably, ABC 7 reports that this is not the suspect's first run-in with the law; police believe that the child has been involved in over a dozen break-ins in the last two weeks. Because of the suspect's youth, however, law enforcement in Maryland has been forced to release the tween on every occasion, leading to frustration among dealership groups and law enforcement alike.
"In the case of someone who is under 13, they are completely immune from accountability or consequences of almost all property crimes," Jason Johnson with the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund said to ABC 7. "The Maryland juvenile justice system is set up so that there are little if any consequences for most juveniles involvement in criminal activity."
Managers at the dealerships declined to officially comment on camera to the local news station, but expressed (understandable) frustration about the situation. In any event, there are most certainly easier and better ways to get your sugar fix.
