The 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Evo Is a Friendly Car That Can Destroy a Road Course

From Road & Track

This 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 isn't yet 20-years-old, but it's already a racing legend. It comes from one of sports car racing's finest eras, when automakers poured tons of money into gorgeous, fast GT1 racers that are still loved today. Thankfully, driving a 911 GT1 more than lives up to its reputation.

British Touring Car racer Andrew Jordan found that out in Goodwood Road & Racing's latest video, where he takes the Playstation-liveried 911 GT1 Evo around Silverstone Circuit. Unlike the 1989 962C Jordan drove previously, with its crazy downforce and boost, the 911 GT1 is much friendlier.

The steering is more communicative, and the power is more manageable, even though the 962 and 911 GT1 use largely similar engines. Maybe the old adage of "don't meet your heroes" is true, but perhaps there should be an exception for the 911 GT1.

Also, just listen to the wastegate noise! I want that sound in every turbo car.
