1998 Dallara Oldsmobile Aurora Indy Car Owned by AJ Foyt at Mecum Indy Fall Special Auction.
Car enthusiasts and collectors are in for a treat at the Mecum Indy Fall Special Auction on October 5th, 2024. Up for grabs is a piece of motorsport history—a 1998 Dallara Oldsmobile Aurora Indy Car previously owned by legendary racer and team owner AJ Foyt. The car will cross the auction block as Lot S53, with proceeds benefitting Homes For Our Troops, a non-profit dedicated to building custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans.
This remarkable Indy Car, chassis number 98-111, boasts an impressive racing history. In 1998, it ran eight races with the AJ Foyt Team, claiming five pole positions, including at the 82nd running of the prestigious Indianapolis 500. Driven by Billy Boat, the car secured victory at the True Value 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, solidifying its place in racing lore. The nose of the car is also signed by AJ Foyt himself, adding to its collectability and historical value.
Originally featuring a Dallara chassis and Oldsmobile Aurora engine, this Indy Car was later rebodied with Honda markings for use as a show car by ABC Supply Company. The car is sold on a Bill of Sale and includes a 2005 Featherlite trailer, making it not only a collectible but also a practical acquisition for display or transport.
This is more than just an iconic race car; it’s a chance to own a vehicle steeped in motorsport history while supporting a worthy cause.
