• Introduction

  With compact crossover SUV sales rising, Nissan updates the already popular Rogue for the 2017 model year. Softening sedan sales also have the company predicting that the Rogue will become its best-selling model.
  
  The 2017 Rogue continues in S, SV, and SL trim levels. New option packages add a new level of luxury to SL versions, and a new Rogue Hybrid variant arrives to supply up to 34 mpg in combined driving, according to the EPA.

• Exterior Features

  Nissan has made substantial changes to the front of the refreshed 2017 Rogue. It features a bold yet tastefully integrated version of Nissan’s “V-Motion” grille design, combined with new headlights mounted flush with the hood rather than sweeping up into it like the wide-eyed Murano’s peepers.
  
  New aluminum wheels designs, including an available 19-in. size with a machined surface, also debut, along with new taillights. Fresh colors include the eye-catching Monarch Orange, along with Caspian Blue and Palatial Ruby.

• Interior Features

  The new Rogue receives a subtle update inside, too, including upgraded materials, minor design changes, a standard flat-bottom steering wheel design, and a new shifter with a leather boot cover. The Rogue Hybrid, which is limited to 5-passenger seating, receives a storage well beneath the trunk cargo floor.
  
  Continuing from last year, the Zero Gravity front seat design intends to improve comfort levels, and an optional Family package includes a small third-row seat for S and SV trim levels. Interestingly, the Rogue is one of only two models in its segment that supplies seating for up to 7 passengers.
  
  A folding front passenger’s seat ensures that long items can be carried inside with the Rogue’s rear liftgate closed. Also, non-hybrid versions are equipped with a 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat, while the Rogue Hybrid features a 60/40 split rear-seat design.

• Optional Features

  New for the 2017 Nissan Rogue, a motion-activated tailgate is optional on the SV trim and standard on the SL. The new Rogue is also newly available with a heated steering wheel, memory for the driver’s seat and mirror settings, remote engine starting, and automatic high-beam headlights.
  
  Platinum and Platinum Reserve Interior option packages bring a new level of luxury and equipment to the Rogue lineup. For example, quilted tan leather upholstery is included with the Platinum Reserve Interior package.

• Under the Hood

  Continuing from last year, the 2017 Rogue S, SV, and SL are equipped with a 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) powers the front wheels, and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is an option. Drivers can select between Normal, Sport, and Eco driving modes, and the EPA says the Rogue can get up to 26 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg in combined driving.
  
  The new 2017 Rogue Hybrid pairs a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, a 30-kW electric motor, and a compact Lithium-ion battery for total output of 176 horsepower. Automatic engine start/stop and brake-energy regeneration technologies help to improve fuel economy, too, which is rated 33 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined by the EPA.

• Safety

  Nissan continues to offer a forward-collision warning system with automatic emergency braking for the Rogue, enhancing the technology with adaptive cruise control and pedestrian-detection capability for 2017.
  
  The Rogue’s blind-spot warning system carries over, too, now enhanced with rear cross-traffic alert technology and installed as standard equipment for the SV trim as well as the SL. A lane-departure warning and prevention system is new for 2017.

• Technology

  Nissan makes no changes to the Rogue’s infotainment system offerings for the 2017 model year. All 2017 Rogues come with Bluetooth, music-streaming capability, and a text-messaging assistant. As an upgrade for the Rogue SV and standard for the Rogue SL, a NissanConnect infotainment system with a 7-in. touch-screen display is available, including mobile application access, navigation system, and Siri Eyes Free compatibility.
  
  Choose the Rogue SL to access NissanConnect Services, available by subscription. Through this service, the Rogue includes automatic collision notification, emergency calling, and safe teen driver features such as curfew alert, speed alert, and boundary alert.
  
  Additional technology highlights include a Bose premium audio system, which is part of a new Sun and Sound Touring package for the Rogue SV and is standard for the SL. The 2017 Rogue also offers an AroundView Monitor, a 360-degree top-down camera-view system with moving-object detection technology, and an Easy Fill Tire Alert system that helps the owner to easily maintain proper tire pressures.
