Yahoo Autos The 2019 Ford Ranger Now Has a Black Appearance Package Like Every Other Pickup
After only a few months in showrooms, the new Ford Ranger pickup already adds a black appearance package.
Priced at $1995, the largely cosmetic package includes a spray-in bedliner and a full complement of black exterior trim items.
This is actually the fourth appearance package for the truck, and more than two-thirds of buyers have been choosing to add one of the others so far.
Generally, when a manufacturer gets around to treating a model to a "black" or "midnight" trim package of some sort, it's a last-ditch attempt to inject a little excitement into a model when the sizzle has begun to fizzle. Not the case with the 2019 Ford Ranger. It has only been in showrooms since January (although, technically, preordering started in October 2018), and Ford is already busting out this Black Appearance package, which is available for order immediately.
Priced at $1995, the Black Appearance package includes a black-painted grille and lower valance, high-gloss black-painted 18-inch aluminum wheels with black center caps, black running boards, mirrors, fender vent surrounds, sill plates, a spray-in bed liner, and, on FX/4 models, a black front bash plate. Breaking up the black are body-colored bumpers that also come as part of the package.
Ford is particularly keen on mixing the blackout treatment with livelier colors such as Hot Pepper Red and Lightning Blue. We're thinking that applying the black appearance package to a Ranger wearing a coat of Absolute Black would make a nice homage to the '80s-tastic Ford F-150 and Bronco models of few decades prior.
At launch, buyers had the option of selecting among a trio of special packages: a pair of appearance packages, dubbed Chrome and Sport for obvious reasons, which cost an extra $795 to $1790, depending on which model you put it on; plus the functional FX/FX4 package (on the base XL model only) that adds upgraded tires, off-road suspension tuning, protective skid plates, and all-terrain settings for $2130. Ford says that more than two-thirds of Rangers leave showroom with an appearance package, so it makes sense for Ford to lean into the trend and give buyers what they evidently want.
