Long ago, ordering an HD pickup was a relatively simple task: "You want the big engine or the bigger engine? And, oh yeah, red or white?" Those modest days are long gone. Today's shopper is presented with myriad options to pore over, including major functional decisions about body styles, bed lengths, and powertrains. The price sheet for the 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 HD pickups, released today, displays a total of 37 line items just for the base MSRPs of each base-model trim and powertrain combination. For that reason, and the fact that spec'ing a pickup has become a highly personal task, we'll just touch on the highlights here.

The absolutely least expensive way to join the 2019 Ram HD club is to opt for a rear-wheel-drive 2500 Tradesman long-wheelbase model with the regular cab and a gasoline engine. Priced at $35,090, it even includes old-school manual roll-up windows. Going for the spacious crew-cab configuration inflates the MSRP to $38,845; adding four-wheel drive to the same configuration crests the $40k mark to arrive at $41,745.

Looking at the same configurations in the Ram 3500 one-ton guise adds a little to the bottom line: the base vehicle wears a $36,540 base MSRP, while the crew-cab version comes in at $40,195; adding four-wheel drive brings the MSRP to $43,095.

Looking at the popular Bighorn trim tells a similar story. Starting at $39,340 for a regular-cab, rear-wheel-drive 2500 long-wheelbase Bighorn, the price moves to $43,995 when opting for the crew cab; adding four-wheel drive to that trim brings the MSRP to $46,695.

Moving directly to the top of the line Limited series, know that it'll take a minimum of $62,995 of your hard-earned dollars to ride in that level of comfort-and that’s for the 2500 crew-cab short-bed version with rear-wheel drive. Moving to the top of the offerings, the 3500 megacab, four-wheel-drive Limited will set you back $68,745. Add the big Cummins with 1000-lb-ft of torque, and you'll bring the total to $80,540-and that's before perusing the options sheet.

The 2019 Ram Power Wagon, Ram's brutal off-road beast, only comes as a 2500 HD short-wheelbase 4x4 with the 6.4-liter gasoline Hemi V-8, and it starts at $54,595.

Finally, remember that there is an nearly infinite way to get your Ram HD on. This big truck is offered in Tradesman, Bighorn, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Power Wagon, and Limited trims, and the base MSRPs are just the tip of the pricing iceberg. Those currently in the market are advised to read comprehensively, remain calm, and bring their checkbooks.
