  • The 2021 Jeep Compass will no longer be available with a six-speed manual transmission, as reported by CarsDirect.

  • The stick-shift was previously available on the base Sport trim with either front- or all-wheel drive, and on the all-wheel-drive Latitude model.

  • This means the base price rises $1615, to $25,390.

Jeep had stubbornly resisted the demise of the manual transmission, but FCA's SUV brand is starting to give in to the trend. The Jeep Compass will no longer be available with a six-speed manual for 2021, leaving the Wrangler and Gladiator as the only Jeep models available with three pedals in the U.S. after the Renegade also dropped its manual option recently.

The Compass had previously offered a six-speed stick on its base Sport trim level, paired with either front- or all-wheel drive, and on the AWD Latitude trim. The Compass's six-speed automatic will now be standard on all front-wheel-drive models, with all-wheel-drive models upgrading to a nine-speed automatic. A 2.4-liter inline-four with 180 horsepower is the sole engine choice. The 2021 Compass Sport now starts at $25,390, a $1615 uptick that's mostly attributable to the loss of the manual; the automatic previously cost $1500 extra.
