Yahoo Autos 2022 Toyota Tundra Will Have a Bold New Look
The next-generation Toyota Tundra full-size pickup will arrive soon as a 2022 model.
This teaser photo gives a glimpse at the new truck's imposing grille, size, and shape.
Expect the current truck's 5.7-liter V-8 to be replace by a twin-turbo V-6, and hybrid and electric models will follow.
Toyota will soon debut the new Tundra full-size pickup, and we're getting the first look at the redesigned truck in this teaser image that shows its front end. We should see the truck in full in the coming months, and it could arrive as early as this year as a 2022 model to make a stronger case against the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, and Ram 1500.
Previous leaked photos of the new Tundra's front end and spy shots have given us an idea of what it'll look like, and we mashed the photos together to get a better look (pictured above). This official photo from Toyota shows that the bold-looking headlights are present, and there's a light bar stretching across the middle of the grille where the previous model had a "Toyota" badge. The prototype we spotted testing was a crew-cab model with a short bed and six-lug wheels.
The current model is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V-8 that produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. We think it's likely that a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 will take its place. A hybrid version will be offered as well, and Toyota says that an electric pickup will be coming soon, too. Spy photos of the new trucks have shown a covered-up rear end, and we suspect that it's hiding a new suspension setup. The current trucks use a leaf-spring setup in the rear, and the new one could have coil springs, air springs, or even an independent rear suspension.
We'll know more about the 2022 Toyota Tundra in the coming months, and it should go on sale in the U.S. by the end of the year.
