2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS: With 557 horsepower and a 3.4-second 0-60, here’s how Chevy’s $62K SUV raises the bar

What can you get for $62,000? Well, if you hand that money to Chevrolet, you’ll get a 3.4-second 0-60 mph time, 557 horsepower, and up to 290 miles on a single charge. All of that comes with the Blazer EV SS—the top trim on Chevy’s premier line of EVs. The Blazer SS also delivers an impressive 645 pound-foot of torque, courtesy of the dual-motor setup that powers the new EV.

Fast charging capabilities across the Blazer EV lineup

The vehicle is equipped with 190 kW charging capabilities, but that’s not unique to the SS trim. The entire Blazer EV range can achieve this level of fast charging, adding around 70 miles of range in about 10 minutes.

Premium features on the Blazer EV SS

While the SS trim stands out for its performance, it also boasts all the top-end features currently available in the Blazer EV lineup. This includes heated and ventilated front seats, with heated rear seats also coming as standard—something no other trim offers.

The Blazer EV SS also includes Chevy’s full suite of driver assistance systems, such as lane-keeping assist, park assist, and automated braking. Plus, you get Chevrolet’s highly praised Super Cruise system, which takes hands-free driving to the next level.

Trade-Offs: Less range and a higher price tag

As powerful as it is, the Blazer EV SS does come with a few compromises. The robust motors need more energy, costing the Blazer SS around 30 miles of range per charge compared to the RS trim, which sits just below it in the lineup.

There’s also the matter of price. The Blazer SS costs over $10,000 more than the RS trim and about $20,000 more than the standard model. But this isn’t surprising, as it aligns with the pricing strategy seen in previous SS-badged Chevrolets. You pay more, it uses more energy, but the added performance is intended to justify the premium.

When can you get your hands on the Blazer EV SS?

There’s a bit of a wait for the Blazer SS, but the good news is that it isn’t too long. Chevy expects the powerful EVs to roll off the production line by Q1 2025. At the time of writing, you can’t pre-order the Blazer SS yet, but you can sign up for more information on Chevrolet’s website. Other trims of the Blazer EV, however, are available for pre-order if you’re looking to secure a spot in line.

Final Thoughts: Is the Blazer EV SS a step in the right direction for Chevrolet?

Chevrolet has had a complicated relationship with EVs and has made some puzzling decisions, like discontinuing the Bolt EV just as it was gaining popularity. However, the Blazer EV SS could be considered a move in the right direction.

If there’s one thing that can make EVs stand out, it’s performance. While paying north of $60,000 may seem steep, this isn’t a vehicle for folks simply looking to take their kids to soccer practice. It’s an SUV that could leave a Lamborghini Gallardo in the dust when launching from 0 to 60 mph—and it’s available at a mid-range SUV price.

That said, it’s worth noting that the Kia EV6 GT offered similar specs at a comparable price point a few years ago. While that model received a lot of praise, it didn’t post game-changing sales figures. So, will the Blazer EV SS finally put Chevy’s EV offerings in the spotlight, or will it end up being just another footnote in automotive history? Only time will tell.
