2025 Ford Mustang GTD Churns Out 815 Thunderous Horsepower
Ford has confirmed powertrain details on the Mustang GTD, saying it will produce 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.
The massive power figure comes from the GTD's supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine and a new redline of 7650 rpm.
The GTD's top speed will be 202 miles per hour, making it faster than any roadgoing Mustang before it.
Be still, my beating heart. The Mustang GTD isn't here yet and we don't want to get too excited. On the other hand, Ford just confirmed that the Mustang GTD will produce 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, and that's pretty damn cool.
Along with the power figure, Ford also confirmed that the GTD will be capable of achieving a top speed of 202 mph, making it faster than any road-legal Mustang before it. That's a claimed 22 mph faster than the Shelby GT500, which was capped at 180 mph due to the maximum rotation speed of the driveshaft. Reaching the top speed requires the GTD's drag reduction system, which reduces the angle of the massive rear wing and activates flaps under the front of the car to maintain aerodynamic balance.
The massive power figure is thanks to the supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, which Ford pulled from the aforementioned Shelby GT500. Unlike that car, the GTD adds a dry-sump oil system that not only helps on-track performance but also allowed Ford to raise the redline by 100 rpm to 7650. A smaller supercharger pulley and revisions to the intake and exhaust systems from the GT500 setup also help with the new power figure. The impressive figures are part of Ford's plan to record an official sub-seven-minute lap of the Nürburgring.
The application window for buying a Mustang GTD has long closed, with buyers paying an estimated starting price of $325,000. North American production is expected to start late this year, or early in 2025.
