2025 Jeep Gladiator Drops Manual TransmissionJeep

The world is down yet another manual pickup truck today as Jeep drops the six-speed manual option from the Gladiator for its 2025 model year. This news comes just a day after Jeep made the manual the only available option for the 2025 Wrangler’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine.

With the manual Gladiator going away, the only new pickup left with a row-your-own configuration in the U.S. will be the Toyota Tacoma. If you’re just after an off-road-capable rig, both the Wrangler and Ford Bronco march on flying the third pedal flag.

Jeep wouldn’t disclose a manual take rate when queried, but did provide this statement when asked why it’s dropping the manual.

“The 2025 Jeep Gladiator will exclusively feature a high-tech eight-speed automatic transmission to maximize the best-in-class V-6 towing and payload capability demanded by our midsize truck customers. This configuration is chosen by most Gladiator owners today, and best matches the specific capability and expectations customers tell us they want in an open-air Jeep pickup truck. The iconic, flagship Jeep Wrangler will continue to offer a manual transmission as part of its 80-plus years of heritage and for Jeep brand customers who appreciate the involvement of a manual gearbox.”

As Jeep confirmed, the Gladiator’s standard and only transmission option will be the eight-speed automatic. It’s paired with the 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. In what feels like a small notion at an apology, the price for a base, automatic Gladiator is cheaper in 2025 than 2024 by $2,295, coming in at $39,995 with destination.

You get more for your money, too, as Jeep makes power locks and power windows standard equipment for 2025. Yep, just like the Wrangler, Jeep would still let you buy a 2024 model year vehicle with manual locks and crank windows. Both Fathom Blue and ‘41 (a military olive) join the color palette, and Active Cabin Ventilation that allows for pre-conditioning of the interior via Jeep’s app becomes an option.

There is still no specific launch date, but Jeep confirmed its previously-announced Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid variant would hit dealers in calendar year 2025.
