Nissan is no stranger to the world of off-road SUVs, with the Patrol and the Pathfinder are some of the most recognizable nameplates in four-wheeling — even if the latter isn't quite as rugged as it used to be — but they aren’t exactly large by American standards. So, for the first time since 2016, Nissan is ready to serve the full-size SUV market a new take on its three-row 4x4 — and it's coming with new-and-improved off-road chops to help bolster the brand's beyond-the-street cred even further.

The 2025 Nissan Armada family consists of five trim levels: SV, SL, PRO-4X, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve. Every model is underpinned by a reworked frame for 2025, which Nissan says improves torsional rigidity by 25 percent and lateral stiffness by some 57 percent. Not only does this improved frame unlock more capability for the PRO-4X models, but it should improve ride comfort and isolation for all customers.

Under the hood of the 2025 Nissan Armada sits a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which provides 425 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Those figures represent gains of 25 hp and 103 lb-ft compared to the outgoing V-8, figures that should quell frustration over the loss of the extra cylinders. That output helps the truck achieve a maximum tow rating of 8500 lbs, a figure more than sufficient for most weekend toys.

The motor comes backed by a new nine-speed automatic transmission, which should help bring some added efficiency over the outgoing seven-speed unit. The 2025 model year also brings a Trailer Blind Spot assist system to the Armada for the first time, making it easier to navigate traffic with a trailer in tow.

The star of the show is the new PRO-4X model, however. The off-road-focused truck comes with a suite of upgrades over other units, including an adaptive air suspension system and an electronic locking rear differential. The air suspension system allows customers to raise or lower the truck by as much as 2 inches, providing up to 9.6 inches of ground clearance in its highest setting. This allows the Armada to achieve approach, departure, and breakover angles of 33.9 degrees, 24.3 degrees, and 25.3 degrees, respectively.

The PRO-4X truck also features a set of unique 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, as well as underbody skid plates to protect the important, sensitive hardware. Unique fascia at the front and rear also work to enhance approach and departure off-road.

Every Armada has a new face for 2025, with the SUV drawing clear inspiration from the Frontier and Titan pickups. The headlights are pushed farther to the corners, with a more squared-off, vertical look than the previous model. The grille has also grown, and is flanked by a new set of running lights; overall, the face looks meaner than before, giving the truck a much more purposeful stance. The profile has also been reworked, with a more sophisticated approach to the surfaces. The rear end looks awfully similar to a slew of General Motors SUVs and/or the Kia EV9, to our eyes, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The end result: a much more attractive truck than the outgoing unit, and one that looks in line with the times.

Customers can choose from eight exterior hues for 2025: Alpine Metallic, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Coulis Red Pearl, Aspen White Tricoat, Everest White Pearl Tricoat, and Deep Ocean Blue Pearl. A two-tone roof option is also available on the Platinum, PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve models.

The 2025 Nissan Armada also boasts a much nicer interior than its predecessor. The experience is centered around a pair of twin screens — 12.3-inch ones in lesser versions and 14.3-inch units in higher trim levels. The system is powered by Google Built-In, and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system is laid out in a horizontal theme, with ample soft materials and unique quilting dotting the interior.

The cabin itself has grown in a number of key areas, including some 4.2 extra inches of front legroom, as well as 5.7 extra inches for third row occupants. Cargo capacity has also grown for every seat configuration, allowing more gear to come along for the journey. Platinum Reserve customers score a set of massaging front seats, with heated second row captain's chairs.

Nissan hasn’t shared the pricing breakdown for the 2025 Armada with us quite yet, but they have confirmed that the truck will go on sale at the end of 2024. That means we shouldn’t have long to wait before a full configurator goes live for customers and other interested folks to play around with.
