  • The 2025 Rimac Nevera R is an evolution of the original electric hypercar, and the R packs four electric motors making a combined 2107 horsepower.

  • Along with more aggressive styling, the Nevera R is designed to be even quicker around a racetrack than its record-setting predecessor.

  • Rimac says it will only build 40 examples, with deliveries slated to start next year and each costing about $2.5 million.

Mate Rimac claims the new Nevera R is the only car in the world that accelerates quicker than it brakes. If what the founder and CEO of Rimac Technology says is true, that's pretty darn impressive, and Rimac's latest electric hypercar is hyperquick, hitting 60 mph in a claimed 1.7 seconds and shooting across the quarter-mile mark in 8.2 seconds. Brave enough to take the trip to 186 mph? Rimac says that'll take just 8.7 seconds. Of course, the original 1813-hp quad-motor Nevera was similarly speedy, setting all sorts of records.

The New R-Rated Nevera

With the new Nevera R, Rimac focused on making a car that was lighter and faster around a racetrack. While roughly 30 percent of its parts are carried over from the existing Nevera, the new R-rated version introduces a familiar, albeit sleeker, design. For example, the front clip is now one piece to help optimize aerodynamics. Along with a more aggressive stance, it has new aero bits such as a large diffuser and a weight-saving, dual-layer fixed rear wing, which altogether Rimac claims increases downforce by 15 percent versus its predecessor; aerodynamic efficiency is said to be 10 percent better. The Nevera R has the biggest and stiffest carbon-fiber structure of any car ever made, according to Mate Rimac.

The Nevera's electric powertrain still features an all-wheel-drive configuration, but the four electric motors are completely different. While Rimac didn't share the Nevera R's peak torque output, it did tout a heady 2107 horsepower. With the new e-motors comes a new generation of Rimac's torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. A set of EVO2 carbon-ceramic brakes that provide better cooling are also part of the R's arrival, and they fit inside 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels shod with grippier Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The Nevera R also features a completely new lithium battery pack with a 108.0-kWh capacity and different chemistry. Whereas the existing Nevera used a nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) chemistry, the R has a T-shaped pack that uses a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemistry, which Rimac says is better for sustained performance that's necessary on a racetrack. While the Nevera R's estimated driving range hasn't yet been certified, Rimac is targeting around 250 miles, but that's based on the optimistic European WLTP test cycle, so we expect its electric range to be around 213 miles using the EPA's methodology. The car's peak charging rate remains 500 kilowatts, which exceeds the limits of most public DC fast-chargers. Another interesting design update is the three charging lights on the Nevera's body sides.

There are few details about the Nevera R's interior, but as seen in the photo above, the dash looks a lot like it did before. The familiar features include a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a digital gauge cluster, HVAC vents set deep into the dash, and a center touchscreen that controls the audio, climate, and navigation system. The car that debuted at this year's Monterey Car Week is painted Nebula Green, which is a new color inspired by Mate's original green BMW E30 M3. Inside the R, the color is replicated on parts of the dashboard and the contrast stitching.

Rimac plans to start shipping the Nevera R early next year, but the Croatian company only plans to build 40 copies worldwide. Obviously, the electric hypercar will be a rare sight on the streets, and it'll also be incredibly expensive, with models sold to customers in the United States priced at around $2.5 million.
