2025 Volvo XC90 Gets Mild—but Welcome—Refresh
The 2025 Volvo XC90 gets a styling update inside and out and now sports a new grille, front sheetmetal, and a revised dashboard.
The interior gets a new 11.2-inch touchscreen media system that runs the same software as the battery-electric EX90.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 is expected to arrive early in 2025 in the United States.
On the heels of the launch of its new flagship battery-electric family mover, the folks at Volvo are giving its gasoline-burning three-row machine a makeover. The 2025—or 2025.5 for those that enjoy half-year models—XC90 will see revised styling inside and out, and carry over the hybrid powertrains.
Setting this refreshed XC90 apart from its previous iterations is new front sheetmetal, revised lighting, and an updated interior.
Those carryover powertrains are almost expected considering this isn’t exactly a generational shift in the XC90. That means that the 2.0-liter I4 remains at the heart of the three different powertrain options.
The 2025 XC90 B5- and B6-equipped models still feature a 48-volt hybrid system and make 247 hp and 295 hp, respectively. The plug-in hybrid T8 pushes 455 hp to the wheels and can shuffle for 33 miles on just its 14.7-kWh battery.
Despite carrying over its powertrains, the updated XC90 is set apart from the outgoing model by a reshaped nose and updated lighting array. The redesigned grille is joined by a new hood and bumper cover. New headlamps are inspired by the EX90's units but stick with the Thor’s Hammer styling.
Rear styling is basically unchanged except for updated tail lamps that look essentially the same but are darker.
Inside the updated XC90 are some significant changes, including a new dashboard sporting an 11.2-inch touchscreen media display. This new screen runs the same media system as the EX30 and EX90, which means you’ll get a full suite of Google apps natively on the system.
The interior also features some new materials like the Nordico material found in the EX90 and navy herringbone weave, which is made from recycled polyester.
Underneath, the 2025 XC90 is essentially the same as its predecessor. A double-wishbone suspension manages the front wheels and a multilink setup controls rear-wheel movement. Volvo updated the dampers with its adaptive Frequency Selective Damping tech as standard equipment. However, if you want the best ride, an air suspension is still available.
While this probably isn’t the update many of you were expecting from a decade-old platform, it does help modernize the XC90. Volvo says that the XC90 is going to start heading to dealers in the first quarter of 2025, with full pricing to come closer to launch.
