Acura, looking to fill the void left by the departed under-$30,000 RSX sport hatchback, has turned to parent company Honda for the basis of its new entry-level sedan, the ILX. Built around the hot-selling ninth-generation Civic, the ILX shares the Honda's powertrains and chassis, but dresses up for Acura duty with more luxurious interior accouterments and more upscale exterior styling. Three ILX models are available: a 2.0-liter, which features a 150-hp four-cylinder and 5-speed automatic; a Hybrid that sports a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder paired with a nickel-metal hydride battery and a continuously variable automatic (CVT); and a 2.4-liter performance variant, which boasts a 6-speed manual transmission and 201 horsepower. Fuel economy is an ILX strong suit, with city/highway mpg ratings of 22/31 (2.4), 24/35 (2.0), and 39/38 (Hybrid). As is the Acura norm, standard features are plentiful with the ILX and include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 160-watt 6-speaker stereo, Bluetooth phone and audio, keyless entry with pushbutton start, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, power moonroof, 16-inch alloy wheels (17-inch for 2.4), auto on/off headlamps, six airbags, stability and traction control, and a 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
