Acura's Performance EV Concept Brings Fresh Looks, Strong Potential
On Thursday, Acura revealed its fresh take on a performance electric SUV during the festivities of Monterey Car Week. Appropriately named the "Acura Performance EV Concept," the Japanese brand says the car represents the direction it's headed with its next electric vehicle.
The SUV coupe concept, which boasts looks crafted by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles and inspired by "the high-tech form and function of hydrofoil superyachts," has more swoops and curved lines than anything currently on offer from the luxury automaker. The rear end is designed to "pay homage to the second-generation NSX;" to our eyes, from the press photos, it also looks somewhat reminiscent of the Lotus Emeya's tail, while the front shares some resemblance with the Buick Envista.
As for the specs on this concept, well, there's not much to report. Acura says it rides on 23-inch wheels wearing performance tires, which we'd wager won't make it to production, and packs stopping power from "drilled high-performance brakes."
The upcoming production car that will be derived from this concept will be the first vehicle engineered on the in-house EV platform designed by Acura's parent company Honda. That model will be produced at the Japanese automaker's facility in Marysville, Ohio, on a new assembly line it calls its "EV Hub." The automaker says it will go into production in late 2025, joining the company's existing electric SUV, the ZDX, in the lineup.
