1993 was yet another turbulent year in Central Europe. Suddenly, Czechoslovakia was no more, but as far as car enthusiasts were concerned, local design legend Václav Král's mid-engined MTX Tatra V8 was still the talk of town. In 1997, the air-cooled dream that, in 2010, was featured in Kanye West's Runaway video, was clocked at a top speed of 165mph. Unfortunately, a fire at the MTX workshop made all hopes of series production futile.

But since the first red MTX Tatra V8 prototype was introduced as early as October, 1991, Mr. Král had plenty of time to cook up with something even flashier for 1993: A one-off mid-engined Corvette called the "Mysterro."

Also known as the first Innotech Corvette, this Czech supercar was built around a custom spaceframe filled with C4 'Vette parts and wrapped in a combination of Kevlar and carbon fiber composites. It won Král the Czech National Design Award almost immediately.

Made functional by 1994, the Innotech Corvette is a 300 horsepower affair with a five-speed transaxle, center-lock O.Z. Racing alloy wheels, Pirelli rubber and a surprising amount of useful cargo space above the side air intakes. It weighs just under 3000 lbs., and according to Racecarsdirect.com, you can buy it right now for just $120,000.

If that sounds somewhat steep, remember that this unique Czech-American supercar is significantly cheaper than what we expect GM will charge for its upcoming mid-engined offering.

Just make sure to replace those 1994 P Zeros before flooring it for the first time.
